AbstractAbstract
[en] High energy interactions involving hard processes with small cross section from nucleon targets are generally interpreted in terms of the quark-parton model. The hard process cross section is modified if the target nucleon is embedded in a nucleus. When an attempt is made to interpret both published and new, unpublished data in terms of a model describing partons traversing nuclear matter to and/or from a hard interaction, inconsistencies in the picture arise

AbstractAbstract
[en] We calculate the degradation in the signal from sampling, noble liquid, ionization calorimeters due to charge build-up from the slowly drifting positive ions. Such effects can be significant in calorimeters planned for operation at high luminosity hadron colliders such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN

[en] The EMPACT detector concept is a contender for a first-round SSC experiment looking at the physics of hard collisions. This paper describes the unique approach, list the basic parameters, and indicate some of the flexibility in the design

[en] For a Fermilab experiment we have designed and built gated-pulse-stretcher modules which allow us to clock all of the fast electronics with the accelerator rf, thus simplifying the trigger design. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Many high-data-rate experiments in elementary particle physics suffer large dead-times due to the slow speeds with which the on-line computer can read in data from each event. To eliminate this bottle-neck, we have designed, constructed, and made extensive use in a physics experiment of a 4 megabyte memory buffer which employs ordinary dynamic RAM memory chips and which accepts all of our event data generated during a beam spill at Fermilab at a rate of 14 Mbyte per second.
