AbstractAbstract
[en] Motorways of the sea operated as RoPax services are natural competitors with only-road freight haulage transportation. Cost, time and quality perceived are the determinants that make transporters and shippers use one route or another. This research considers the role that shipping companies and their ship deployment and pricing strategy have in the equation, as incentives for modal shift from road to sea. A model of the ships and transporter costs is developed considering different business models for the transporter (accompanied versus unaccompanied cargo) followed with a discrete choice model that, once calibrated, allows to test the influence that variables such as frequency, ship size and commercial speed might play into the competitiveness of a shipping line. As a result, different pricing strategies for the shipping line are developed and the characteristics of the optimal shipping line for each of them are found, to either maximize the profit of the shipping company or the modal shift. AbstractAbstract
[en] ENEA, in cooperation with ANSALDO, has developed a wide analytical and experimental programme on U-tube Steam Generators (SGs) thermalhydraulics with these main objectives: experimental verification of SG behavior during transients; development of a computer code (ANTARES) and its validation; experimental analysis of the main parameters influencing SG performance. The related experimental activities are in progress both at ENEA-CRE Casaccia Rome and at SIET - Piacenza. The paper reports some results of the experimental tests carried out at ENEA-CRE Casaccia with the FREGENE test section. This test section, i.e. SG model at Freon 12 - water simulated conditions consists of 15 U-tube (INCONEL 600) bundle with pitch 27 nm, outer diameter 19.05 mm and tube wall thickness 1.15 mm; the tube bundle length (6.22 m) has been reduced by a factor 0.4 approximately. The scaling criteria used to design the FREGENE test section are also described. The tests include both steady state and unsteady state conditions (normal operating, upset conditions and instability)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The aim of this report is the objective evaluation of the clinical image quality through the implementation of a multiscale method of structural similarity (MS-SSIM*) and the assessment of noise. The method has been applied to analyze multislice computed tomography (MSCT) chest pediatric images obtained with different optimization methods. To cover the broad chest diametrical ranges for pediatric patients, two phantoms have been used a cylindrical polymetil methacrylate (PMMA) phantom of 16 cm diameter and an anthropomorphic phantom. Three different CT scans have been acquired for each phantom, with the same scout view. The first scan has been adquired with the standard protocol using intensity modulation with patient thickness, Z-DOM (reference image). Then, images from two different optimization procedures have been evaluated: first, intensity modulation with bismuth protectors and then reduced intensity relative to the reference exposure in the standard procedure. The results show lower noise and greater similarity to the reference image on the images acquired with intensity modulation and bismuth versus those acquired by reducing the intensity up to 25%. Multiscale similarity algorithm can provide relevant image quality information without subjectivity or dependence of viewing conditions.

Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Italian program for developing and testing steam separators for nuclear plants is presented. This program is carried out in the frame of a research agreement between ENEA and ANSALDO DBGV S.p.A. The experimental activity includes: (1) small scale experiments intended to obtain first screening of steam separators geometry: these experiments are carried out in air-water facility (L.AR.A). Results are merely qualitative; (2) full scale experiments carried out in air water facility (ARAMIS). These experiments are intended to obtain quantitative results concerning carryover, carryunder, efficiency, pressure drops; and (3) full scale tests intended to qualify both new designed and licensee models of steam separators. Tests will be carried out in Gest-Sep facility operating at the actual reactor conditions. This paper contains: LARA loop presentation, ARAMIS loop presentation, GEST-SEP loop presentation, some scaling criteria utilized to choice the air-water operatng parameters, and examples of results obtained in air water small scale experiments
