AbstractAbstract
[en] Composite material consists of reinforcement materials and resin as a matrix. Vacuum infusion isone of composite material manufacturing process. This process is to minimize the air cavity on composite material. The composite material will have good mechanical properties. There is a problem in vacuum infusion related to resin gelling time that must be considered. In this study, the area as well as the reinforcement layers are variated. Unsaturated polyester was used as resin and woven roving fiberglass was used as reinforcement. This study was obtained that resin infusion time data for woven roving, 15x20 cm of size, in two until six layers are 55 seconds to 78 seconds; whereas, the infusion times for 15x25 cm of size,in two until six layers are 119 seconds to 235 seconds; whereas the infusion time for 15x35 cm of size, in two until six layers are 181 seconds to 303 seconds. By data processing, the maximum fiber area that resin still can flow, for 6 layers, is 0,4391 m2 (or 15 cm x 2.92m). Maximum fiber total layers for the specimen with 15x20cm2, 15x25cm2 and 15x35 cm2 of areaare 147, 145 and 125 layers respectively. (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Adsorption is a separation process that has higher energy efficiency than others. Analyzing the nature of the adsorbate and the selection of suitable adsorbent are key success in adsorption. The performance of the adsorbent can be modified either physically or chemically to obtain the efficiency and effectiveness of the adsorption, this can be facilitated by using a composite adsorbent. In this study, we have conducted the preparation process of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/zeolite/carbon composites. The resulting adsorbent composites are dedicated for ethanol – water dehydration proposes. The composites were prepared using cross-linked polymerization method followed by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) to obtain the porous structured upon drying process. The characterization of the functional groups and morphology were performed by using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), respectively. The FTIR analysis showed that composite prepared by SFE method formed hydrogen bonding confirmed by the appearance of peaks at 2950 – 3000 cm-1 compared to composite without SFE method, whereas, the results of SEM study showed the formation of three layered structures. On basis of the obtained results, it can be shown that PVA/zeolite/carbon has high potential to be develop further as an adsorbent composite. (paper)

[en] Dimethyl ether can cause degradation of the rubber material seal in some applications. In order to use of natural rubber in industry, research about a blending of natural rubber (NR) and nitrile rubber (NBR) to produce rubber to meet the standard seal material application were conducted. This study will observe the degradation mechanisms that occur in the blending natural rubber and nitrile rubber (NR/NBR) by dimethyl ether. Nitrile rubber types used in this study is medium quality nitrile rubber with 33% of acrylonitrile content (NBR33). The observed parameters are percent change in mass, mechanical properties and surface morphology. This study is limited to see the effect of variation vulcanized blending ratio (NR/NBR33) against to swelling. The increase of nitrile rubber (NBR33) ratio of blending rubber vulcanized can reduce the tensile strength and elongation. The best elastomer variation was obtained after comparing with the standard feasibility material of seal is rubber vulcanized blending (NR/NBR33) with ratio 40:60 NR: NBR. (paper)
