AbstractAbstract
[en] Using advanced calculation programs, the inherent behavior and response behavior of structures can reliably be predetermined. In contrast, the dynamic forces affecting a system, in particular unbalances, are often unkown. From balancing of individual rotors, only the vibration path amplitudes at the measuring points used are known. However, these may originate from quite different unbalance distributions. Using probabilistic methods, however, values for the vibrational behavior of the overall structure can be derived from this. (orig.)

(orig.)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fluctuations from resonance to resonance of the average number of prompt neutrons and of the average gamma ray energy have been measured for the neutron-induced fission of 241Pu in the energy range 4-91eV. The 60MeV linar accelerator of CEN Saclay was used to produce the pulsed beam of incident neutrons, and a large Gd-loaded liquid scintillator to measure simultaneously the average number of prompt neutrons and the average gamma ray energy. Weak anticorrelated fluctuations observed for these two quantities have been attributed to the (n,γf) reaction

AbstractAbstract
[en] A multipassage diffuser having 2p passages comprises a leak-tight cylindrical enclosure closed by a top cover and a bottom end-wall, parallel porous tubes which are rigidly assembled in sectors between tube plates and through which the gas mixture flows, the tube sectors being disposed at uniform intervals on the periphery of the enclosure. The top tube plates are rigidly fixed to an annular header having the shape of a half-torus and adapted to communicate with the tubes of the corresponding sector. Each passage is constituted by a plurality of juxtaposed sectors in which the mixture circulates in the same direction, the header being divided into p portions limited by radial partition-walls and each constituting two adjacent passages. The diffuser is provided beneath the bottom end-wall with p-1 leak-tight chambers each adapted to open into two different portions of the header, and with two collector-chambers each fitted with a nozzle for introducing the gas mixture and discharging the fraction of the undiffused mixture. By means of a central orifice formed in the bottom end-wall the enclosure communicates with a shaft for discharging the diffused fraction of the gas mixture

AbstractAbstract
[en] The role of circulating humoral agents in the pathogenesis of vascular wall Na depletion in malignant hypertension (MHT) was investigated. Plasma was collected from 33 male F344 rats with malignant one-kidney, one clip HT and 22 normotensive control rats. MHT developed spontaneously and was characterized by inactivity, weight loss, edema, anemia or hemoconcentration, hyperkalemia, and renal insufficiency. For bioassay, monolayers of quiescent vascular smooth muscle cells from F344 rats were incubated in deproteinized or whole plasma for measurement of 86Rb uptake with or without 2 mM ouabain or 1 mM furosemide. Compared to controls, ouabain-insensitive 86Rb uptake was reduced from 8.2 +- 2.0 nmol/mg protein min-1 (mean +- SD) to 5.2 +- 1.4 in deproteinized plasma (p < 0.01, N = 12) and from 6.6 +- 1.9 to 4.0 +- 0.3 in whole plasma (p < 0.05, N=5) of rats with MHT, due in part to a reduction in furosemide-sensitive uptake (p < 0.01, N = 6). There were no differences in ouabain-sensitive 86Rb uptake of cells between groups. In rats with MHT the increased Na content of the aorta that characterizes benign one-kidney, one clip HT was reversed, and bladder wall Na content was reduced (p < 0.001, N = 9). In MHT, a furosemide-like, ouabain-insensitive cation transport inhibitor in blood and urine may be the cause of vascular wall Na loss and of natriuresis that triggers the syndrome

AbstractAbstract
[en] Very often in the literature, the descent from saddle to scission in the low energy fission of even-even actinides is cited as an example of a process in which a large scale collective rearrangement of nuclear matter is realized without (or with a very low) dissipation of the collective kinetic energy into quasi-particle excitation. As a matter of fact, a systematic and strong even-odd effect in fragment charge distributions as well as a fine structure in mass distributions have been interpreted as an indication that the superfluidity of these fissioning systems (known to be completely paired at the saddle point) should be, to a large extent, preserved up to scission. We present here a set of experimental results concerning the thermal neutron induced fission of 233U, 235U, 239Pu and the spontaneous fission of 252Cf, which are in contradiction with such an interpretation

AbstractAbstract
[en] Time sequences of recurrent mass ejections have been observed during a coordinated SMY program (Sept. 1, 1980 - Sept. 23, 1980 - Oct. 2, 1980). Comparison of the temporal evolution of H-alpha and CIV brightnesses shows a weak phase lag between H-alpha and CIV maxima, in the case of homologous flares, with CIV brightness maxima preceding H-alpha maxima. The analysis of the variation of the ejection velocities is expected to lead to the determination of an energy balance. Such recurrent ejections could be due to periodic energy storage and periodic reorganization of magnetic field as envisaged to occur for flares, but at lower energy levels

AbstractAbstract
[en] Engineers and technologists responsible for the application of ion exchange materials often need to be concerned about the physical and chemical stability of these products. As the applications become more demanding and diverse, the probability of exposing ion exchange materials to adverse conditions becomes more certain. One possible situation would be the exposure of a Type I strong base anion exchange material to high temperature water by accident or intent. The data and derivations presented in this paper provide a guide to the application technologist once a set of operating conditions have been defined. This presentation may also provide a starting point for additional studies along similar lines. The techniques used could be applied to a wide range of ion exchange materials with little modification
