AbstractAbstract
[en] In the present thesis studies on the physical properties of the members of the third lepton family consisting of τ and ντ are described. From the analysis of the measured invariant 5-pion mass spectrum of the τ decay a new, improved mass limit follows. It amounts to m(ντ) ≤ 35 MeV/c2 (95% CL). In order to determine this limit the decay channel τ- → π-π-π-π+π+ντ was selected without background admixture whereby also a determination of the branching ratio was possible: BR(τ- → -π-π-π-π+π+ντ)=(0.064±0.023±0.010)%. Furthermore in τ decays 2. kind currents were looked for. If these exist so the occurrence of the decay τ- → ηπ-ντ is predicted. For the detection of this decay in the π+π-π0 mass distribution a η signal was looked for. From the analysis of the π+π-π0 mass distribution an upper limit for the branching ratio of this decay was derived: BR(τ- → ηπ-ντ) ≤ 0.91% (95% CL). Also the inclusive η production in τ decays was looked for. For this an upper limit is given: BR(τ- → ηX-ντ) ≤ 1.3% (95% CL). This limit is also still valid for the production of several η mesons in the decay of a τ lepton. For the test of the method used for the search for η mesons the number of the ω mesons found in the π+π- mass spectrum was calculated into a branching ratio for the inclusive ω production in τ decays: BR(τ- → ωX-ντ)=(1.65±0.3±0.2)%. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden Untersuchungen zu den physikalischen Eigenschaften der Mitglieder der dritten Leptonenfamilie, bestehend aus τ und ντ, beschrieben. Aus der Analyse des gemessenen invarianten 5-Pion-Massenspektrums des τ-Zerfalls folgte eine neue, verbesserte Massengrenze. Sie betraegt: m(ντ) < or approx. 35 MeV/c2 (95% CL). Um diese Grenze zu bestimmen, wurde der Zerfallskanal τ- → π-π-π-π+π+ντ ohne Untergrundbeimischung selektiert, wodurch auch eine Bestimmung des Verzweigungsverhaeltnisses moeglich wurde: BR(τ- → π-π-π-π+π+ντ) = (0.064±0.023±0.010)%. Weiterhin wurde in τ-Zerfaellen nach Hinweisen auf Stroeme 2. Art gesucht. Existieren diese, so wird das Auftreten des Zerfalls τ- → ηπ-μτ vorausgesagt. Zum Nachweis dieses Zerfalls wurde in der π+π-π0-Massenverteilung nach einem η-Signal gesucht. Dieses Signal konnte nicht nachgewiesen werden. Aus der Analyse der π+π-π0-Massenverteilung wurde eine obere Grenze fuer das Verzweigungsverhaeltnis dieses Zerfalls abgeleitet: BR(τ- → ηπ-ντ) < or approx. 0.91% (95% CL). Es wurde auch nach der inklusiven η-Produktion in τ-Zerfaellen gesucht. Hierfuer wird eine obere Grenze angegeben: BR(τ- → ηX-ντ) < or approx. 1.3% (95% CL). Diese Grenze gilt auch noch fuer die Produktion mehrerer η-Mesonen im Zerfall eines τ-Leptons. Zur Ueberpruefung der zur Suche nach η-Mesonen verwendeten Methode wurde die Zahl der im π+π--Massenspektrum gefundenen ω-Mesonen in ein Verzweigungsverhaeltnis fuer die inklusive ω-Produktion in τ-Zerfaellen umgerechnet: BR(τ- → ωX-ντ) = (1.65±0.3±0.2)%. [en] The experimental ARGUS results on baryonic B decays are summarized. The branching ratio of B mesons into baryons has been measured to be Br(B → baryons) = (7.6 ± 1.4)%. It appears that baryonic B decays are dominated by charmed baryons and multibody final states. 5 refs., 2 figs. 2 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Measurements on the properties of the ντ are reviewed with special emphasis on the measurement of the mass of the τ neutrino. A preliminary update on the ARGUS upper limit on the ντ mass is reported. With new data which almost doubled the statistics, ARGUS still obtains an upper limit of m(ντ) < 35 MeV/c2 at 95% CL. In addition, future possible limits on the ντ mass are discussed. (author) 23 refs., 2 figs

[en] The results presented here correspond to three analyses performed with the ARGUS at the DORIS II storage ring at DESY. The Michel parameters ρ and ξ in leptonic τ decays using events of the type e+e- → τ+τ- → (μ+νμantiντ) (e-antiνe ντ). The decays D*0 → D0γ and D*0 → D0π0 have been analyzed in order to determine the individual branching ratios and the D*0 - D0 mass difference. In addition, a partial wave analysis of the decay D0 → KS0π+π- has been performed, thereby showing that a description with the presently known contributions of three-body decays plus K*-π+ and antiK0ρ0 is not sufficient. 2 figs., 3 tabs., 15 refs

AbstractAbstract
[en] New preliminary ARGUS results on τ decays are presented. We have measured the inclusive 3-prong branching ratio as well as the exclusive branching ratios for 6 major τ decay channels: τ- → ε-ν-bareντ.τ- → μ-ν-barμντ.τ- → π- /K-ντ.τ- → π-π-π-ντ.τ- → π-π0ντ and τ- → π- π- π+ π0 ντ†. Our results are in contradiction to the recent CELLO measurements, which indicate that the τ decay problem disappeared. A search was made for 26 different neutrinoless τ decays. No evidence has been found, that the τ decay problem might be connected to such neutrinoless decays. In addition, the hadronic final states of τ decays into π π0ντ and π-π-π+ντ have been analyzed. [en] Using the ARGUS detector at the e+e- storage ring DORIS II, we have observed the decay of tau minus → 3 Pions minus + pion plus + tau neutrino in tau-pair events produced at centre-of-mass energies between 9.4 and 10.6 GeV. From the 5π invariant mass distribution we derive an upper limit of m(tau neutrino) < 35 MeV/c2 at the 95% confidence level. The branching ratio for this decay channel is found to be (0.064 ± 0.023 ± 0.01)%
