AbstractAbstract
[en] A brief review is given of those aspects of the effective interaction problem that can be grouped under the heading of infinite partial summations of the perturbation series. After a brief mention of the classic examples of infinite summations, the effective interaction problem for two extra core particles is examined. Their direct interaction is summed to produce the G matrix, while their indirect interaction through the core is summed in a variety of ways under the heading of core polarization. The work of Weidenmueller and co-workers is mentioned, specifically the use of Pade approximants as a method of summing the series. Finally, the shell model diagonalization method of Rowe et al. is discussed. Only a brief outline is given of the analogous work on the effective charge problem

[en] Understanding of the deuteron has improved greatly in recent years, due both to improved measurements of the observables and to new theoretical approaches. These are reviewed with emphasis on the static of low energy deuteron properties. The questions of the deuteron matter radius is discussed in detail

AbstractAbstract
[en] To a large extent, the nuclear force is a two body force, so the two body problem is the central problem of nuclear physics. As the only two nucleon bound state, the deuteron has been the object of intense experimental and theoretical interest for four decades. Yet, our knowledge of this simplest of all nuclei is far from satisfactory. Many of its properties have been measured to great precision. To date, our understanding of its structure has remained much less precise. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] An alternate way of introducing inelasticity parameters for two coupled elastic channels, such as the S and D waves in np scattering, has been devised. The present scheme is related to recent proposals of Bryan, of Klarsfeld, and of Melhem and Kermode. The existence of spurious solutions in the purely elastic case is demonstrated and a cure proposed
