AbstractAbstract
[en] The Delta region of excitation on targets of 1H 2H, 12C, 40Ca and 208Pb was studied at the Neutron Time of Flight facility (NTOF) at LAMPF. These spin observables complement existing hadronic and electromagnetic reaction studies. However, (p, n) spin observables are needed to isolate the spin-longitudinal and spin-transverse response functions. Results show smaller medium modifications of the free values than were theoretically predicted. The DLL + 2*Dv; results show that the Delta is not a pure unnatural parity excitation

AbstractAbstract
[en] The experimental angular distribution for the 13C(p,n)13N reaction at 120 MeV is shown, along with results of a DWBA calculation. A sample TOF spectrum from the 26Mg(p,n)26Al reaction at 120 MeV is exhibited, and the relative strengths of spin-isospin and isospin terms of the effective nucleon-nucleus interaction are extracted. 00 TOF spectra for 116Sn(p,n) and 208Pb(p,n) reactions are also given; concentration of strength above the IAS is noted in the former. 4 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] Differential cross sections, analyzing powers, and tensor analyzing powers were measured from 100 to 600 at 17 MeV. Results of zero- and finite-range DWBA calculations are shown. One-step DWBA and two-step CCBA calculations of angular distributions for the 512+ to 712+ doublet at 2.6 MeV in 207Pb were performed, and results are presented. 2 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] Cross sections and analyzing powers were measured in the 206Pb(→t,p) 208Pb reaction leading to the 4-, 5- states of the (p/sub 1/2/-1 g/sub 9/2/) doublet. Standard DWBA calculations reproduce the cross section but not the analyzing power for the 5- state. The opposite is true for a sequential transfer (t,d) (d,p) calculation for the 4- state. 1 figure, 1 table

AbstractAbstract
[en] I review available techniques for extraction of weak interaction rates in nuclei. The case for using hadron charge exchange reactions to estimate such rates is presented and contrasted with alternate methods. Limitations of the (p,n) reaction as a probe of Gamow-Teller strength are considered. Review of recent comparisons between beta-decay studies and (p,n) is made, leading to cautious optimism regarding the final usefulness of (p,n)- derived GT strengths to the field of astrophysics. copyright 1995 American Institute of Physics

AbstractAbstract
[en] Low-lying levels of 86Y have been investigated using the 86Sr(3He, t) reaction at 42.8 MeV. Jsup(π) values or limits were assigned to 20 of the 23 levels observed below 1.5 MeV through the use of collective DWBA calculations or experimental (3He, t) reaction systematics. The particle-hole structure of 86Y is discussed on the basis of these data and the shell model. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The (p,n) reaction at intermediate energies provides a direct determination of nuclear weak-interaction matrix elements which are often unobtainable from decay studies. Calibration of this strong-interaction probe for quantitative measure of such matrix elements has been based primarily on study of the well-known Fermi and GT transitions in the 14C(p,n)14N reaction. The energy dependence of the ratio of the strengths of the isovector spinflip and non-spinflip central components of the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction using this reaction has been extended to higher energies than previously investigated using the recently commissioned 600 meter neutron flight path at the NTOF facility of LAMPF. This study will further improve our understanding of the (p,n) reaction as a probe of matrix elements related to beta decay
