AbstractAbstract
[en] The precision study of W boson properties is one of the most important goals of the LEP2 physics programme. This paper provides an overview of the measurements performed by the four LEP experiments, with particular emphasis on the extraction of the W mass. A review of the results obtained with the data collected until 1999 is also presented

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Double Chooz experiment will measure neutrino oscillations by comparing the neutrino flux and spectrum in two identical detectors at different distances from a reactor core. Its aim is to make almost an order of magnitude improvement on our knowledge of the last unmeasured neutrino mixing parameter sin2(2θ13). This paper presents the detector concept and the main ongoing items for development and optimisation of single systems

AbstractAbstract
[en] The performance of glass RPCs operated in avalanche mode has been studied by varying both particle rate (up to about 100 Hz/cm2 equivalent m.i.p.) and temperature (up to 40 deg. C). The glass RPC rate capability is seen to strongly improve with increasing temperature, due to the lowering of the glass electrodes volume resistivity

AbstractAbstract
[en] The HARP experiment at CERN is performing extensive measurements of hadron production cross sections and secondary particle yields in the energy range 2-15 GeV over the full solid angle, using a large set of cryogenic and solid targets. Hadron production in this kinematic region is a relevant ingredient in several branches of neutrino physics, such as characterisation of neutrino beams, precise prediction of atmospheric neutrino fluxes, and measurement of pion production and capture for neutrino factory design. An overall precision of a few percent is required from the experiment to reach the final aim. First measurements of hadron production cross sections in the forward region (up to about 300 mrad), using a replica of the K2K target and a proton beam of 12.9 GeV/c, are reported. This is an appealing physics case, given the immediate interest for these experiments and for the neutrino community

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this paper we describe the performance of several Glass RPCs, where the water-based graphite coating is replaced by a synthetic coating applied using the screen printing technique. As expected, the performance of the detectors is good and reproducible due to the accurate control of the coating resistivity value. The resistance of the coating to the action of mechanical and chemical agents permits an easy electrode cleaning and mounting with respect to the RPC coated with the graphite varnish. This coating, together with the use of float glass as electrode material, allows an industrial production, where the detector characteristics can be tailored as a function of the experiment requirements
