Materials of All-Polish Symposium Nuclear Techniques in Industry, Medicine, Agriculture and Environment Protection2005
AbstractAbstract
[en] The present state of the International Nuclear Information System INIS activity is characterized. This activity includes mainly to develop and to maintain the INIS Database containing records of scientific and technical publications within the INIS scope as well as the INIS NCL Database containing full texts of non-conventional literature published in other sources than journal and books, such as reports, patents, conference materials and others. The input in Poland to the INIS stem during last years is presented. Actual possibilities to use INIS Databases by Polish users through the mediation of the National INIS Centre are discussed and its services are mentioned. The most useful seems to the INIS Database by Internet as well as the fact that all services made directly by the INIS Centre are since 2005 year free of charge. To facilitate estimation of the INIS system usefulness for particular users the part of the INIS scope connected with the Symposium thematic is mo detailed presented. (author)

Application of radionuclide methods in metallurgy and engineering1987
Application of radionuclide methods in metallurgy and engineering1987
AbstractAbstract
[en] A method was elaborated of selective extraction of metals (chromium and vanadium) from industrial wastes with possible re-use. Radionuclides were used for elaboration of a treatment of chromium effluents from electroplating workshops using ion exchange, eliminating the generation of a number of harmful sediments of heavy metals and recycling chromium in the production process. A hydrometallurgical technique was developed for extraction of vanadium from fly ash from power plants fired with heavy oil fractions. (author). 4 figs.,

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method was developed and introduced for monitoring the movement of silver-containing anodic slimes in copper electrorefining baths. Radioactive 111Ag was used as tracer and copper plates labelled with the tracer were inserted into the anodes. During electrorefining the slime produced was continuously marked by the tracer. The activity of 111Ag was measured at various points inside the bath by sampling and continuously registered with the aid of integrators. It was found that more than 99 percent of the slime slipped to the bottom of the bath close to the anode surface and did not migrate even at highest electrolyte flow rates. Small quantities of suspended slime contained an insignificant concentration of silver and should not be a source of cathode contamination. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Based on the laboratory studies and industrial measurements, examples are given of the use of nuclear technique to check chemical processes and apparatus. The properties of radiotracers, methods of their production and application in the studies of distillation processes, rectification, electrorefining, sedimentation and liquid-liquid and solid phase extraction, are discussed. The results obtained allowed for the determination of movement parameters of the particular components inside the apparatus and for the characteristics of the latter. The usefulness of the presented isotopic methods for acquiring data to elaborate new technologies and apparatus and to modernize the applied technologies is evaluated. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Location of leakages in large hydro-engineering plants and industrial water reservoirs is of great importance from view-point of both safety and economy of their exploitation. Large variety of water reservoirs encountered in hydro-engineering and industry calls for adaptation of investigation methods to their specific features. In the paper a number of methodological variants of known radiotracer technique developed at the INCT is presented. They are intended to detect and locate leakages in hydro-engineering reservoirs and dams as well as large open industrial tanks. The radioisotopes Au-198 and In-133 m being used for that purpose show excellent sorption characteristic on typical construction materials users to build such objects. (author). 8 refs, 8 figs
