[en] Neutron cross section for ⁵6Fe in the energy region from 1 MeV to 50 MeV were calculated by the GNASH code, in which the modification was made with the particles transmission coefficients that can be read from external files or calculated in the program using a version of the optical model ELIESE. The effects of the model parameter and corrections on the calculated cross sections were analyzed for the case of reactions with 14 MeV neutrons. [en] In the piercing horizontal channel of the Dalat nuclear research reactor a 98cm long silicon filter has been installed for producing quasi-monoenergetic neutrons of 55 keV and 144 keV. The flux intensities of the neutron beams are 4x10⁶ n/cm².s (55 keV) and 1.2x10⁷ n/cm².s (144 keV). Filtered neutron beams are being utilized for the measurements of the resonance-averaged nuclear parameters. In the first experiments aiming partly at testing the adequacy of the experimental conditions total neutron cross-sections have been measured by transmission technique for U-238 and C-12 target nuclei. The data for U-238 obtained with the accuracy of about 1% were compared with the evaluated ENDF/B-IV data and the results of recent experimental works. (author). 4 figs, 6 refs, 2 tabs

[en] Nuclear Technology has been applied in custom control and nuclear security in the board gates of many countries. There are two kinds of nuclear equipment applied for these purposes including (1) radiation radiography ones using gamma, X-ray and neutron irradiation facilities and (2) radiation measurement ones using gamma, neutron, beta and alpha detectors. However, these equipment have some disadvantages due to the physical properties of the nuclear technology that we could not overcome. These disadvantages have promoted the revolutionary research on development of the new equipment so called THE MULTI-MODE PASSIVE DECTECTION SYSTEM (MMPDS) based on the muon radiography. The report presents overview of the status for the import/export goods control in Vietnam, the disadvantages in the import/export goods and radioactive sources security control in Vietnam, advantages of the MNPDS technology and its applications in the world. The report also makes some proposals for automatic control of import /export goods and the security control for radioactive sources and nuclear materials in Vietnam at the board gates. (author)

[en] After finishing the IAEA TC Project oil renovation of the Dalat reactor control and instrumentation system, several PC-based systems such as Reactor Data Display System, Area Monitoring System, Reactor Protocol System and so on were newly designed and developed. These systems play an important role for observation, operation and maintenance support of the reactor. Besides, there are also several PC-based systems related to alpha, beta and gamma spectrometers. In this report we present the main functions of each system and discussion oil the Y2K issue in Vietnam and in Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission in particular. (author)

[en] The thermal reactor is an intense source not only of thermal neutron, but also intermediate as well as fast neutrons. Using the filtered neutron beam technique at steady state atomic reactor allows receiving the neutrons in the intermediate energy region with the most available intense flux at present. In the near time at the Dalat reactor the filtered neutron beam technique has been applied. Utilization of the filtered neutron beams in basic and applied researches has been a important activity of the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute (DNRI). This report presents some relevant characteristics of the filtered neutron beams and their utilization in nuclear data measurements, neutron capture gamma ray spectroscopy, neutron radiography, neutron dose calibration and other applications. [en] Utilization of reactor neutron beams at NRI for research and applications up to November 1996 had been presented at the last Workshop in Jakarta (25-28 Nov., 1996). This paper describes new research and applications carried out at Nuclear Physics Department of NRI after that time. They consist of neutron beam developments, neutron activation cross section measurements for waste disposal assessment and in-vivo prompt gamma neutron activation analysis for Cd determination in organs. After the last Sub-Workshop on Neutron Scattering in Serpong (21-23 Nov., 1996), we were accepted to participate in the Regional Program on Study of High Tc Superconductors with the topic 'The mechanism of Pb and Sb dopant role on superconductivity of 2223 phase of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system'. Indeed, this study has begun at NRI only since August, 1997 due to the problem of materials. The study has been carried out in collaboration with the Hanoi State University (Superconductors Department) where experts and equipment for superconductors research have been considered as the best ones in Vietnam. Primary results in this study are presented in this workshop. (author)
