AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors recall cervical etiologies of headache. They distinguish on the one hand the cervico-occipital region with minor and major malformations and acquired lesions, and on the other hand the middle and inferior cervical segment. They also recall the original structuralist analysis of the cervical spine and give the example of the ''cervical triplet''. (orig.)

(orig.)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] This book is a continuation of the author's Exercises in Radiological Diagnosis series. The text is organized into an atlas of 158 sets of images of normal anatomy and pathologic processes affecting the cervico-occipital junction, followed by comments, interpretations, and drawings in the second half of the book. The text includes a wide range of pathologic conditions extending from tumor to congenital variation

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper reports a study of seven newborns with suspected congenital heart disease (CHD) before and after surgery with ECG-gated and spin-echo 0.5-T MR imaging and with two-dimensional Doppler echocardiography (2DDE). Four patients had transposition of the great vessel. Three patients had pulmonary atresia with ventricular septum defect (VSD). MR imaging provided satisfactory diagnostic quality in all seven patients and furnished precise information complementary to data from 2DDE: before surgery, diagnosis of two distal VSDs; after surgery, assessment of patency of small vascular structures (palliative shunts and insertion of coronary arteries) and complete morphologic and functional depiction of two Senning corrections

[en] At present, diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine are independent special branches concerning university courses and degrees as well as the health care system. In the private sector there are few radiologists practicing diagnostic radiology and radiotherapy concurrently. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the utility of MR imaging in identifying vascular rings in a very young pediatric population. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Eleven infants aged 4 to 91 days underwent MR imaging with a 5-T magnet with ECG-gated single-echo spin-echo sequences (section thickness, 5 mm; axial, coronal and/or oblique views). Ten patients had symptoms compatible with and seven had findings of vascular rings to barium esophagography. One patient had pulmonary atresia and VSD. Two-dimensional echo images were also obtained in each patient prior to MR imaging. In nine patients, MR imaging (contrary to 2D-echo) confirmed the presence of and helped determine the type of vascular ring, including three aberrant subclavian arteries, two posteriorly located brachiocephalic arteries, one double aortic arch, two pulmonary slings, and one Neuhauser ring

AbstractAbstract
[en] In the practice of creating expert systems, the radiologist and his team are considered as the expert who leads the job of the cognitian or cognitician. Different kinds of expert systems can be imagined. The author describes the main characteristics of heuristics in redefining semiology, semantics and rules of picture reading. Finally it is the experience of the couple expert and cognitician which will in the futur grant for the success of expert systems in radiology

AbstractAbstract
[en] Twenty-four newborns (mean age, 7 days) were investigated with electrocardiographically gated 0.5-T MR spin-echo sequences. Twenty had various congenital heart diseases, and the remaining four served as a control group for normal cardiac anatomy. All newborns had undergone prior evaluation with two-dimensional echocardiography. In all but one newborn, MR images were of satisfactory diagnostic quality. MR imaging missed three small ductus arteriosus and one membranous ventricular septal defect (VSD). Two-dimensional echocardiography was insufficient in four newborns in whom MR imaging led to the correct diagnosis: two transpositions of the great vessels (missing two ventricular septal defects), one severe ductus arteriosus, and one double aortic arch. Angiography was avoided in the newborn with the double aortic arch, and in the three others it just confirmed the MR results. Therefore, MR imaging appears to be a very useful adjunct to two-dimensional echocardiography, making it possible to explore congenital heart disease of the newborn noninvasively

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors discuss the concept of symmetry and defect of symmetry in radiological imaging and recall the definition of asymmetry (congenital or constitutional) and dissymmetry (acquired). They then describe a rule designed for the cognitive method of automatic evaluation of shape recognition data and propose the use of reversal symmetry
