AbstractAbstract
[en] An overview of Ordinance on Prevention of Ionizing Radiation Hazards at Works to Decontaminate Soil and Wastes Contaminated by Radioactive Materials Resulting from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Related Works presented, along with the relevant guidelines. Their implementation in Fukushima Prefecture in the year of 2013 is also summarized. It seems that efforts of Japan to cope with radiation protection of remediation workers in contaminated areas off-site are far from having been turned into good practices. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A brief introduction to UK's regulation of nuclear facility decommissioning in defense sector is presented. Apart from statutory regulation, internal regulation is exercised. The regulatory process and philosophy for both regulators are described, with a framework of joint work formed. The paper concludes with considering the movement towards a more coherent approach, because of less distinct differences in decommissioning of defense and civil nuclear facilities. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Principles and measures for α waste minimization are discussed, along with the latest development in this regard, for the management of α waste from decommissioning and site remediation activities. The research and development of decontamination techniques aimed at decategorization of α waste is proposed to improve waste management in decommissioning and site remediation in China. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radiation protection principles of controllable chronic exposure to long-lived radioactive residues and its applications in decommissioning of nuclear facilities are discussed on the basis of initial study of ICRP-82, involving cleanup or remedy of different-origin residues, site-specific practice or intervention to be in place, and selection of terminal decommissioning target. AbstractAbstract
[en] Decommissioning of a pilot uranium enrichment installation was completed in 1980's. This is the first full range of nuclear facility decommissioning practice in China, with emphasis on decontamination and recovery of uranium metal. This paper provides a brief review of this practice in respect of decommissioning philosophy, residual contamination level, decontamination strategy, research and development practices, and socio psychological effects. This would be expected to help for future recovery and reuse of radioactively contaminated metal. (authors)

[en] A jet foaming generator with baffle was designed and developed. The experimental result indicates that the foams generated by the generator have expansion ratio of 7.80, half life of liquid in foam of 3.50 h, half life of foam of about 6.25 h, and velocity of foam of 6.97 m3/h, and mean diameter of 0.82 mm. AbstractAbstract
[en] Three categories of end states of nuclear and radiological facility decommissioning and environmental remediation are clarified with respect to specific objectives set for different programs. The relevant radiation protection goals, safety requirements for remedial actions, as well as research work needed urgently to have these goals and requirements achieved are further discussed.
