AbstractAbstract
[en] At the High Intensity Photon Setup (HIPS) at S-DALINAC in Darmstadt 60Ni was investigated with unpolarized bremsstrahlung with energies up to 8.0 MeV and 9.9 MeV, respectively. Determination of spin and parity quantum numbers and absolute transition strengths was possible, using HPGe detectors placed under different angles. To assign also parity quantum numbers, the polarized photon beam of the High Intensity Gamma Source (HIγS) at Duke University was used. With the combined results, evidence of the Pygmy Dipole Resonance in 60Ni was found.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Future photopion experiments at the HIγS facility are described. It is shown that they will provide accurate tests of ChPT and will be sensitive to isospin breaking dynamics due to the mass difference of the up and down quarks.

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present preliminary results of photo-fission measurements of uranium isotopes with the quasi-monoenergetic gamma-ray source, HIGS. The measurements were performed to search for photo-fission resonances. We discuss potential applications to use photo-fission resonances to identify special nuclear material in cargo containers. We discuss the importance of quasi-monoenergetic gamma-ray sources for this kind of application.

AbstractAbstract
[en] In a deformed nucleus the nuclear states are combinations of an intrinsic motion and a rotational motion of the core. In this scenario the Coriolis force changes the projection of the angular momentum on the symmetry axis and admixes different K values. The effects of the Coriolis interactions have been observed experimentally for K = 1/2 bands. The recent observation of the first excited rotational state of the isovector low-lying JπK = 1+1 scissors mode in a (γ,γ') experiment inaugurates a case to study the Coriolis decoupling for K = 1 bands. In the talk, the theoretical description provided by Bohr and Mottelson is presented, and their adaption to the particular case is explained alongside the ongoing analysis and open questions.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Photon Strength Function (PSF) is a crucial input parameter for statistical model calculations such as Hauser-Feshbach calculations to study the nucleosynthesis of the elements in the universe. In practice, it is a challenging task to determine the PSF experimentally. Therefore, photon-scattering experiments were performed at the High Intensity γ-ray Source (HIγS) at Duke University, Durham, USA. Due to the monochromatic photon beam that is provided at HIγS, the excitation energy is well known as well as the ensemble of states that are populated, i.e. mainly J=1 states. The emitted photons from the subsequent deexcitation are measured with the γ-γ coincidence setup γ3. With this experimental approach it is possible to determine the PSF for dipole transitions on top of the ground state and the PSF build on low-lying excited states. Recent results on Te-128 are presented and discussed.
