AbstractAbstract
[en] We report on the extension of resonant magnetic diffraction into the soft X-ray region (500-1500 eV). We conducted soft X-ray diffraction from a bulk single crystal of La2-2xSr1+2xMn2O7 using an in-vacuum diffractometer. We demonstrate that the resonant enhancement diffraction of the (0 0 1) magnetic peak at the manganese LIII and LII absorption edges is extremely large. Measurements taken on samples with different strontium dopings demonstrate that the shape of the energy resonance is also dependent on the sample stoichiometry. We have applied this technique to the study of other materials such as UAs1-xSex where incommensurate magnetic diffraction has been observed at the uranium NIV and NV edges

AbstractAbstract
[en] We have investigated the orbital and magnetic correlations of the manganese sub-lattice in the archetypical half-doped manganite La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 using the enhanced sensitivity of resonant soft x-ray diffraction at the Mn L edges. We have separately measured the energy dependence of the scattered intensity from both the (1/4, 1/4, 0) and (1/4, 1/4, 1/2) reflections indicative of the long-range correlations of orbital and magnetic order respectively. Measurements of the integrated intensity of the different features in the resonant energy spectrum show the different origins of the orbital correlations and their variation with temperature. The results also give evidence for a strong coupling between the orbital and spin degrees of freedom

AbstractAbstract
[en] The research field of Resonant X-ray Scattering (RXS) has achieved tremendous progress in the last years. Nowadays RXS is rapidly becoming the crucial technique for investigating the subtleties of microscopic magnetism in systems where the ground state properties reflect a delicate balance between several different correlated processes. The aim of this workshop is to discuss present and future possibilities for RXS investigations of electronic order, including studies of charge, magnetic, and multipolar ordered states. The sessions will cover experimental and theoretical aspects of hard and soft X-ray resonant scattering from single crystals and thin films. This document gathers the summaries of the presentations
