AbstractAbstract
[en] The relevance of measuring fission lifetimes of hot nuclei is briefly discussed. It is shown that K X-ray emission prior to fission can be used to measure fission lifetimes. The preparation of the K-shell hole, the simultaneous nuclear excitation, and the analysis of the X-ray spectra is described. First results of a measurement using a 20Ne beam of 30 MeV/nucleon on a 232Th target are reported

AbstractAbstract
[en] A compilation has been made of all available data on pion production in proton-induced reactions in the subthreshold region at E(proton) ≤ 200 MeV. Combined with recent data obtained by the TAPS collaboration it reveals large cross section variations in the published data. The variations appear to be mostly experimental in origin. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method for distinguishing charge binary reactions from reactions that are not binary in charge is discussed. The method consists of measuring in coincidence with a projectile-like fragments (PLF) the characteristic K X rays of the target-like fragments (TLF). From the reaction matrix obtained in such measurements information concerning the excitation energy of the primary PLF can be extracted. This information is crucial for the understanding of the dynamics of heavy-ion reactions. The excitation energy sharing between PLF and TLF provides a test for discriminating between the abundant phenomenological models trying to describe these reactions. 1 tab., 17 figs., 20 refs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The structure of certain nuclei and atoms allow one to study fundamental symmetries and interactions. In this review we consider the search for Time-Reversal invariance Violation (TRV). We consider two options: TRV in β decay or the search for the forbidden Electric Dipole Moment (EDM). In both cases atomic trapping can be an appropriate tool. For β decay radioactive isotopes are necessary, but also for EDM searches they appear to be useful

[en] An overview is given of the first experiments with the new KVI cyclotron AGOR. First experiments have focused on nuclear Bremsstrahlung in few- and many-body reactions. A classical introduction to nuclear Bremsstrahlung is given. First results on coherent Bremsstrahlung are discussed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The emission of light particles is studied using the method of particle KX-ray coincidence measurements. This method allows the determination of the atomic number of the heavy reaction fragment. For the reactions /sup 14/N and /sup 16/O on /sup 197/Au at 10 and 23 MeV/A respectively, the authors find that the light particle production is associated with the occurrence of incomplete fusion reactions

AbstractAbstract
[en] In the present paper nuclear Bremsstrahlung has been used as a probe to study dissipation mechanisms in peripheral heavy-ion reactions at intermediate energies, i.e., energies close to the Fermi energy (EF≅ 35 MeV). For energies well below the Fermi energy it has been established that the dissipation mechanism is governed by the nuclear mean field while at energies much higher than the Fermi energy individual nucleon-nucleon collisions govern the dissipation mechanism. It has been shown that at intermediate energies both dissipation mechanisms, the mean field as well as the individual nucleon-nucleon collisions, play an important role. 34 refs., 8 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The production of π0 mesons has been studied in the reactions 40Ar+Ca and 197Au+Au at 1.0 GeV/u. While the pion transverse momentum spectrum from the reaction Ar+Ca is consistent with a simple thermal exponential slope a second component is seen for the system Au+Au. Both neutral pions, neutrons and charged particles exhibit an anisotropy in the reaction plane azimuth. At midrapidity the emission of pions perpendicular to the reaction plane increases with their energy. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Photon angular distributions and energy spectra up to the kinematic limit have been measured in 190 MeV proton reactions with light and heavy targets. For the first time photon spectra in dependence of scattered protons have been measured to investigate the influence of the multiple-scattering process on the photon production. Based on predictions for the free pn Bremsstrahlung amplitude a strong suppression of Bremsstrahlung relative to a quasi-free production model is observed in the low-energy regime of the photon spectrum in p + nucleus reactions. We attribute this effect partly to modifications of the Bremsstrahlung amplitude in the nuclear medium and partly to interference of photon amplitudes due to multiple scattering of nucleons. (author)
