AbstractAbstract
[en] A novel technique to stretch the anode wire simply by the gas over-pressure inside straw drift tubes reduces the necessary straw weight to an absolute minimum. Our detector will consist of more than 3000 straws filling up a cylindrical tracking volume of 1m diameter and 30cm length. The projected spatial resolution is 200μm. The detector with a total mass of less than 15kg will be operated in vacuum, but will have an added wall thickness of 3mm mylar, only. The detector design, production experience and first results will be discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] One of the components of the approved extension to the accelerator facility at GSI/Darmstadt is a storage ring for high luminosity phase space cooled antiprotons with momenta between 1.0 and 15 GeV/c. Antiproton annihilation reactions on protons and nuclei will be investigated with a detector system called PANDA. A straw tube tracker (STT) is currently being considered as an option for the PANDA central tracking device. We propose a new design for the STT based on the highly self-supporting technology. The STT will have inner and outer diameters 15 and 42 cm and a length of 1.5 m and will consist of about 5000 straws with a diameter 10 mm. A transversal spatial resolution of the straw tube will be about 150 μm. To avoid massive support structures all straws will be glued together and stabilized by overpressure. In order to have the longitudinal coordinate several straw layers will be skewed by 3 with respect to the beam axis. Due to high event rate (107 events/s) the STT have to cope a high radiation dose up to 1C cm-1 year-1. This talk will present an overview of the simulations and prototyping performed to investigate the performance of the STT for PANDA. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The ball-and-socket ankle joint is a malformation of the ankle in which the articular surface of the talus is hemispherical in both the anteroposterior and lateral projections and has a congruent, concave tibial articular surface. Fourteen patients with this condition were identified retrospectively. Thirteen patients were thought to have the congenital type of ball-and-socket ankle joint which in many was associated with tarsal coalition, short limb, and ray fusion and deletion anomalies. One case of the acquired type, demonstrating less geometric rounding of the talar margins, was seen in a patient with myelomeningocele, probably resulting from sensory and motor deficits. Although the exact etiology of the congenital type is unknown, its association with other malformations suggests that the ball-and-socket ankle joint results from an overall maldevelopment of the ankle and foot. AbstractAbstract
[en] The P̄ANDA experiment is one of the pillars of the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany. The P̄ANDA physics program is focused on answering fundamental questions related to Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD), using antiproton collisions on proton and nuclear targets. The central Straw Tube Tracker (STT) will be the main tracking detector which will reconstruct tracks induced by charged particles (with a transversal spatial resolution of ≃ 150 μm) and it will measure the specific energy-losses for particle identification (PID) with an energy resolution better than 10%. The PID information is especially needed to separate protons, kaons and pions in the momentum region below 1 GeV/c. Results obtained with a prototype STT using a proton and a deuteron beam in the momentum range from 0.5 to 3.0 GeV/c are shown and discussed. (paper)
