AbstractAbstract
[en] Transfer reactions have been used for many years to understand the shell structure of nuclei. Recent studies with rare-isotope beams extend this work and make it possible to probe the evolution of shell structure far beyond the valley of stability, requiring measurements in inverse kinematics. We present a novel technical approach to measurements in inverse kinematics, and apply this method to different transfer reactions, each of which probes different properties of light, neutron-rich nuclei

AbstractAbstract
[en] The 12C+12C and 8Be+16O decay of 24Mg states populated in the 12C(20Ne,24Mg*) reaction has been studied at beam energies of 160 and 110 MeV. Evidence for excited states, which decay by 12C and 8Be emission, is observed for the excitation energy range 22 to 33 MeV. Angular correlation analysis shows that the spins of these states lie in the range of 6 to 12ℎ. These measurements further indicate that the breakup states possess a 4p-4h structure

AbstractAbstract
[en] The PHOBOS experiment at RHIC has measured the charged-particle density dN/dη at mid-rapidity for central Au+Au collisions at center of mass energies of √sNN = 56, and 130 GeV. We deduce that dN/dη = 408 ± 12(stat) ±30(syst) and 555 ± 12(stat) ± 35(syst) for collision energies of 56, and 130, GeV, respectively. These numbers suggest energy densities that are some 70% higher than have been achieved in any heavy-ion collisions previously studied, and also 25-40% higher than nucleon-nucleon collisions at comparable center of mass energies

AbstractAbstract
[en] The effects of baryon stopping and its resulting energy deposition on the dynamics of Au + Au collisions at 6, 8 and 10.8 GeV/nucleon are explored with recent results from the AGS experiment E917. Current analyses of stopping, collective flow signals and HBT parameters are presented. Strangeness and anti-baryon production is examined using the yields of anti-lambdas and anti-protons
