AbstractAbstract
[en] Some improvements and upgrading project are progress smoothly at Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL). The beam intensity of SFC cyclotron is increase 3 to 10 times, the heaviest beam extracted is Pb after improvement of vacuum up to 10-8mbar, reducing the influence the stray magnetic field and power supply system. The beam from SFC could be rebenched to matching SSC cyclotron after new rebuncher is success reaching its design performances. The upgrade project, Cooling Storage Ring (HIRFL-CSR), has been constructed about 4 year. The inject beam line from existing HIRFL system to main ring (CSRm) is installed and tested; CSRm is installed except few special devices; the RIB separator and experimental ring (CSRe) are being installed and will be finish within 2004. The most of setup at CSRm is better than its design that could be optimizing to increase maximum energy about 10-20% more than its original design (900 MeV/u for 12C and 400MeV/u for 238U). There will be some new features at CSR complex which new generation electron cooler, RIB reaction experiment inside CSRe and the digital remote control system. So far, the 12C4+, 16O6+ beam is tuning to inject beam line, and start CSRm commission before end of 2004. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A program on magnet optimization design has been compiled to evaluate main parameters of dipole, quadrupole and sextupole. The parameters include current, resistance, inductance, power, coil parameters, weight, cost, etc. The program, its code is written in Visual C++, works with windows interface and calculates with conventional formula. The program demands the user to input the basic geometrical and electrical requirements, outputs all the results to screen and data files. The program can automatically optimise the magnetic field distribution which is mainly influenced by the pole shape with POISSON calculation to reach the design requirement. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] HIMM, a new compact accelerator facility dedicated to carbon cancer therapy, has been designed and is presently under construction. The synchrotron has a compact structure that exhibits a circumference of only 56.2 m. The charge exchange injection (CEI) method is adopted for synchrotron injection with a carbon-ion energy of 7 MeV/u. The third-order resonance and RF-Knock Out scheme are adopted in this machine. The general design of the machine and injection/extraction simulation results is discussed in this paper

AbstractAbstract
[en] HIRFL-CSR, a new accelerator project planned at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL), is a multipurpose Cooling Storage Ring system which consists of a main ring (CSRm) and an experimental ring (CSRe). The two existing cyclotrons SFC (K = 69) and SSC (K = 450) of the HIRFL will be used as its injector system. The heavy ion beams from the HIRFL will be accumulated, cooled and accelerated in the main ring, and then extracted to produce radioactive ion beams (RIB) or highly charged heavy ions. the secondary beams (RIB or highly charged ions) can then be accepted by the experimental ring for internal-target experiments. In this paper the status of the HIRFL and the details of the HIRFL-CSR project will be reported. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] With the commissioning of the Cooler Storage Ring at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-CSR), a pilot experiment operating the CSRe in isochronous mode to test the power of HIRFL-CSR for measuring the mass of the short-lived nucleus was performed in December of 2007. The transition point γt of CSRe in isochronous mode is 1.395 which corresponds to the energy about 368 MeV/u for the ions with atomic number-to-charge ratio A/q = 2. The fragments with A/q = 2 of 36Ar were injected into CSRe and their revolution frequencies were measured with a fast time pick-up detector with a thin foil in the circulating path of the ions. A mass resolution of better than 105 for m/Δm was achieved. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The status of the HIRFL (Heavy Ion Facility in Lanzhou) – Cooler Storage Ring (CSR) at the IMP is reported. The main physics goals at the HIRFL-CSR are the researches on nuclear structure and decay property, EOS of nuclear matter, hadron physics, highly charged atomic physics, high energy density physics, nuclear astrophysics, and applications for cancer therapy, space industries, materials and biology sciences. The HIRFL-CSR is the first ion cooler-storage-ring system in China, which consists of a main ring (CSRm), an experimental ring (CSRe) and a radioactive beam line (RIBLL2). The two existing cyclotrons SFC (K = 70) and SSC (K = 450) are used as its injectors. The 7 MeV/u 12C6+ ions were stored successfully in CSRm with the stripping injection in January 2006. After that, realized were the accelerations of 12C6+, 36Ar18+, 78Kr28+ and 129Xe27+ ions with energies of 1 GeV/u, 1 GeV/u, 450 MeV/u and 235 MeV/u, respectively, including accumulation, electron cooling and acceleration. In 2008, the first two isochronous mass measurement experiments with the primary beams of 36Ar18+ and 78Kr28+ were performed at CSRe with the Δp/p ~ 10-5. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Sice its inception, the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) has opened a new field of heavy ion physics and its applications in the intermediate energy domain in China. Recently, it was produced to upgrade the HIRFL with a multifunctional cooling storage ring (CSR) forming a HIRFL-CSR accelerator system. This will greatly enhance to performance of HIRFL for the first decade of the next century, particularly for studies with radioactive ion beams (RIB's), and for meeting the emerging nuclear physics needs
