AbstractAbstract
[en] Forty four cases with schistosomiasis, as well as normal control were studied for assessment of cardiopulmonary circulation using radionuclide minimal transient times (MTTs). Twenty five to thirty percent of schistosomiasis patients have prolongation of cardiac and total MTTs with concomitant reduction of verticular ejections. The MTTs are directly related to the degree of advancement in clinical stage of disease and inversely related to eosinophilia.5 fig.,1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] Radionuclide lacrimal scintigraphy (L S) was performed in 20 patients (40 systems) with epiphora as the main symptom in 24 them. L S was positive in 20/24 of symptomatic group (83.3%) and 3/16 of non-symptomatic group (19%). There was normal L S in 42.5% partial obstruction in 7.2% and complete obstruction in 40%, whereas 10% showed false positive results for canalicular obstruction. The specificity of L S in relation to operative results in the 18 systems examined was 78%. 2 fig., 2 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] Phase pattern abnormalities on multiple gated blood pool ventriculography are better reported for the left ventricle (LV) than for the right side of the heart. In a study of 92 patients who also underwent contrast ventriculography, the authors identified six different patterns of right-sided phase abnormalities and their causes: right bundle-branch block, causing delayed phase in the entire right ventricle (RV); ischemic right coronary artery disease, causing delayed phase in the inferior RV wall; pericardial effusion, causing an L-shaped area of delayed phase to the right of the septum and below the LV; pulmonary hypertension, causing delayed phase in the pulmonary infundibulum; tricuspid regurgitation, causing a crescentic area of delayed phase around and below the right RV and extending below the LV as well, and atrial septal defect causing an abnormally large auricular phase

AbstractAbstract
[en] In 20 volunteers several techniques of background subtraction were evaluated for segmental quantitative 201Tl wash-out analysis. In a maximum myocardial uptake ratio compared to lung and liver there were no significant differences. In submaximal exercise or at complete rest constant background subtraction over the left mid lung zone away from big vessels gives the best results. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The study included 95 patients having metastatic bone lesions, subjected to serial quantitative skeletal scintigraphy before and after treatment every 3 months for 6 months. To study the fate of metastatic bone lesions the effect of different treatment modalities, an objective index was used. This index was introduced in 1985 by Israel et al. (1), and was designated TF. A significant drop in TF ratio was observed 6 months following therapy in the groups who received combined localized radiotherapy together with systemic therapy and those who received half body irradiation. In contrast, a marked increase in TF ratio was observed in the patients who did not receive any specific treatment. The response of metastatic skeletal lesions was nearly similar whatever the site of involvement whether in the spine, flat or long bones except for an initial response in the long bones with drop of TF ratio after localized radiotherapy. 1 fig., 3 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fifty patients were referred to nuclear medicine department in NEMROCK center for measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The group included 34 males and 16 females with a mean age of 38.3 ± 10.7 years. Estimation of GFR was done using 111-185 mBq of 99m Tc-DTPA with data collected on 128 x 128 matrix on IDAC computer every 15 seconds with calculation of renal uptake and GFR applying Gates method. 72 hours, a dose 3.7 mBq of 51 Cr-EDTA with 2 blood samples taken at 120, 240 minutes with estimation of plasma clearance using Russel et al., method (1985). The mean clearance of 51 Cr-EDTA was 79.61±22.4 ml/min compared to 84.34±26.3 ml/min. Using direct scintigraphic method with positive correlation using regression analysis (r=0.96). Also, both 51 Cr-EDTA and in vivo 99m Tc-DTPA were positively correlated with creatinine clearance (r=0.87 and 0.91 respectively). A modified regression formulas was used for correction of the results of 99m Tc-DTPA values GFR (99mTc-DTPA) x 0.81 + 11 ± 6.4 ml/min. 4 figs., 1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] Immediately after unilateral nephrectomy, different mechanisms of compensatory adaptation begin to act followed by a restoration of sufficient kidney function in a short time period. Some animal studies showed that prostaglandins (PG) are important for renal function after unilateral nephrectomy. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of prostaglandins on renal function in the fully adapted remnant kidney in healthy uninephrectomized sheep and the acute effect of indomethacin on renal haemodynamics. In order to investigate the importance of prostaglandins on the renal function in the fully adapted remnant kidney, indomethacin (0.8 mg/kg) was injected intravenously immediately before and after unilateral nephrectomy. Forty sheep with unilateral nephrectomy were divided randomly into two groups; twenty sheep (group 1) untreated with indomethacin (unsuppressed PG) and the other twenty ones (group 2) were treated with indomethacin (suppressed PG) before and after clamping the renal pedicle and then instantaneously, the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and the effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) were measured using non-invasive radionuclide technique then the filtration fraction (FF) was calculated. The study showed that there was considerable and instantaneous increase in GFR (148%) and a proportionate increase in the ERPF (91%) in the remaining kidney post-uninephrectomy, and treatment with indomethacin for suppression of prostaglandins synthesis showed non-significant changes in these measured values. The present study showed enhanced function, as measured by GFR and ERPF, in the remaining kidney as a compensatory effect of unilateral nephrectomy and the changes are not prostaglandins mediated
