AbstractAbstract
[en] A method of producing MeV neutron beams with a small neutron energy spread in the beam is described. This method uses a combination of unique properties of deuteron electrostatic accelerators (ESA) and a foilless gas target. The latter allows to realize continuous and easily controllable reproduction of targets with a low energy ''thickness'' on the basis of differential pumping out of the target working medium vapour by freezing it out in refrigerators with the help of liquid nitrogen

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method for production of megavolt neutron beams with relative energy spread of ∼ 5x10-4 based on using electrostatic accelerator and a foilless gas target permitting to realize continuous and easily controlled reproduction of working substance (acetone, heavy water) is described. Differential pumping of vapors of working substance by freezing in refrigerators cooled by liquid nitrogen is used in the target. Technique for using neutron beams from the 12C(d, n) reaction for measuring total cross sections of neutron interaction with nuclei and differential cross sections of elastic scattering is developed

AbstractAbstract
[en] Measurements of the transparency of samples for neutron beams of different energies are discussed. The total cross section for the neutron-nucleus interaction cannot always be derived from this data, but only if there is some information on energy solution of the beam. It is shown that this information is not yet available due to the limitations of technical and theoretical possibilities. Due to this lack of information the problem of finding the exact total cross sections for neutron-nucleus interactions cannot be solved. One certainly has to improve the theory of nuclear interactions and to look for better energy resolution. For preactical uses one must be content with a palliative, the form of which has to be determined by the concrete circumstances. A method is proposed to study experimentally fhe functional phi, which allows some conclusions on the form of the energy resolution function

[en] A method is described for producing megavolt neutron beams with a relative energy spread of ∼ 5 x 10-4, based on the use of an electrostatic accelerator and a gas target with no foil, making it possible to carry out continuous, controlled production of the working substance. In the target differential pumping of the vapor of the working substance is effected by freezing out in liquid-nitrogen condensers. A method has been developed for using beams of neutrons from the 12C(d,n) reaction to measure the total cross sections for the interaction of neutrons with nuclei and the differential cross sections for elastic scattering

AbstractAbstract
[en] Differential cross sections of small-angle neutron elastic scattering by uranium have been measured in the range En=1.62-1.93 MeV with energy resolution of 3.5 keV and in the range En=4.00-5.34 MeV with energy resolution of about 140 keV. Making use of the neutron forward elastic scattering cross section values being a result of graphical extrapolation of the cross section to zero angle and employing the σtot data obtained under the same experimental conditions as the differential cross sections, the relationship between Im f(0 deg) and Re f(0 deg) imaginary and real parts of forward scattering amplitude for uranium are studied
