AbstractAbstract
[en] Cases in which high-energy ions formed in the bow part of the front of a quasi-parallel shock wave have a stable velocity distribution function are examined. It is shown that the dissipation resulting from the cyclotron absorption of wave energy by these ions gives rise to an outgoing precursor of the shock wave which propagates far out in front. This precursor is in the form of rather intense magnetosonic waves. 6 references

AbstractAbstract
[en] The experimental use of a charge-exchange mechanism to form a population inversion in the levels of multiply charged ions, which may help lead to the development of sources of electromagnetic radiation in the far ultraviolet, is reported. During the expansion of a laser plasma burst containing multiply charged oxygen ions into a helium atmosphere, O VIII levels were selectively populated as a result of charge exchange of oxygen nuclei with helium ions. Results on the observed intensities of the O VIII resonant lines and on the effective cross sections for the charge exchanges are shown. 7 references

AbstractAbstract
[en] A parameter which controls the change in the magnetic structure of a current sheet has been found experimentally. When the value of this parameter is below a threshold, the magnetic islands that arise during the onset of the tearing-mode instability move away from each other. In the opposite case, the islands coalesce, with the result that an extended current sheet is converted into a current filament

[en] Experimental results on the shock-wave compression of solid and porous bismuth samples at pressures over the range 0.4-6 Mbar are reported. The course of the supercritical decompression isentropes between a highly compressed condensed state and a low-density plasma has been determined. The experimental results are used to write a thermodynamic description of the high-energy states of a dense bismuth plasma. 11 references

[en] The first results of direct measurements of the characteristics of dust particles with mass m of greater than 10 to the -9th g by the Foton detector, carried on the VEGA 1 and VEGA 2 space vehicles, are reported. The nature of the changes in the dust flux along the trajectory of the space probe is reported. The mass distribution of the dust particles is also reported. 7 references

AbstractAbstract
[en] A numerical simulation of a two-dimensional Langmuir collapse is carried out, making use of the symmetry of the potential in the cavity with respect to the center of the cavity. Three characteristic regimes are found in the final stage of the evolution of a cavity: (1) a collapse; (2) a drawn-out collapse; and (3) a quasi-stationary caviton. It is noted that this result is determined by the features of the two-dimensional geometry of the problem, and that the saturation of the nonlinearity plays a more important role than in the real three-dimensional case. 6 references

[en] Search experiments carried out in the flux of reactor antineutrinos at the Rovno nuclear power plant are described. In the present experiments, an integrating method is used and the detector is a cesium iodide scintillating crystal with a mass of 9.3 kg. Limits are found to the specific antineutrino energy loss in matter, the production of axions in the reactor, the probability of decay, and the effect of the antineutrino flux on the probability of beta(+) and beta(-) decay. 9 references

[en] The Hall effect and the magnetoresistance of tungsten single crystals with rho/sub 293K//rho/sub 4.2K/ = 80 000 have been measured at 4.2 K in magnetic fields up to 150 kOe. The results reveal that a static skin effect gives rise to an anomalously pronounced increase in the Hall coefficient

AbstractAbstract
[en] An interpretation is proposed for the unusual properties observed experimentally for the ultrahigh-energy muons that are produced by radiation from the galactic source Cygnus X-3. Specifically, it is suggested that these properties result from the production of these muons by free gluons. This interpretation is supported by the angular spread of the muons around the direction to the source. This spread is attributed here to a multiple scattering of ultrahigh-energy gluons by a thermal gluon gas
