AbstractAbstract
[en] Suitability and specificity of examinations using computerized tomography are discussed for diagnoses fractures of the orbit including accurate anatomical localization of traumatic changes. The possibility of accurate assessment of the drop of the floor of the orbit which is essential for determination of the thickness of the bone or cartilaginous graft under the eyeball is also important

AbstractAbstract
[en] The possibilities afforded by radiography in stomatology have been extended by the use of more sophisticated X-ray apparatus, orthopantomographs' free focus radiography and indirect imaging via an amplifier, as well as xeroradiography, computerized tomography and the combined use of X-ray positive and negative contrast media. Of methods not using X-rays the most promising appears to be NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) which records certain pathological tissue changes prior to determinable histological changes. Ultrasound has not yet been introduced to such extent as in other medical fields. The authors recommend radiodiagnostic specialization in stomatology to be introduced in this country along the lines of other countries. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The diagnostic value was evaluated of scintigraphic examination of 52 sialomas and 7 sinsialomas and parasialomas. The examinations showed that scintigraphy was not able to distinguish in a significant number of cases the individual tumor lesions, and that it provided complementary morphological information on glandular parenchyma and its ability to accumulate sup(99m)Tc. It is mainly valuable for evaluating the condition of the glandular parenchyma in all cases where sialography cannot be conducted. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] After administration of sup(99m)Tc-MAA or sup(113m)In-MAA into the perfusion system during regional perfusion therapy with cytostatics of malignomas in the maxillo-facial area it is possible to obtain by subsequent scintigraphic visualization of the distribution of radioactivity an accurate topographic picture of the perfusion in the appropriate area. The method is free from complications and there are no contraindications. The paper is supplemented by scintigrams. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Plastic holders were developed for fixing a photographic film in the patient's mouth in stomatological radiodiagnostic examinations of children. The holder serves to reduce the radiation burden of children. In addition, patient's gonads are protected with a shield, a lead apron or a cloth with a lead lining at least 1.5 mm thick. Also developed was a protective shield from a 2.0 mm lead sheet for intraoral examinations. The shield is to be installed in children stomatology offices. (H.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Own experience is presented with computerized tomography (CT) in the examination of tumors of the infratemporal fossa, paranasal sinuses and orbit. Four patients are demonstrated with carcinoma of the maxillary sinus, myxofibroma of the maxilla and adenocarcinoma of the parotid salivary gland. The method was found to be very useful for assessing the size, contours and character of the neoplasm. CT had to be supplemented with angiography for determining the relationship between the tumor and the large blood vessels. CT proved valuable for locating tumors in the orbital region. AbstractAbstract
[en] The effect was studied in the experiment of hypoxia on radiosensitivity of Walker carcinoma in Wistar strain rats. The animals were locally irradiated with a gamma dose of 57.42 Gy both in the air and under hypoxia. O2 tension was measured electrochemically; depolarizing current was recorded using an Oximetr M machine. The average values of O2 tension in the tumor and those in healthy subcutaneous tissue significantly differed. The results showed an insignificant difference in the regression of the tumor in both groups of experimental animals while tumorous growth was observed in the nonirradiated controls. Within 5 weeks after irradiation, 80% of animals irradiated in the air died while only 20% of animals irradiated under hypoxia died. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The second generation Delta-Scan 50 FS 36 was used to examine patients with various diseases of the maxillofacial area. In 5 patients the contribution was demonstrated of CT to the diagnosis of these affections, as compared with classical X-ray pictures. It was found that CT will be valuable in particular in the oncology of soft tissues. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Inbred male mice with inoculated BO-IV mammary carcinoma were irradiated with different doses of laser radiation to study the effect of CO2 laser radiation on the transplantable tumour tissue. An TKG-241 CO2 laser was used with a single dose of 3.8 W/cm2 per 9.30x10-3 s. The individual groups of experimental animals were irradiated with the said dose and with doses 3 to 5 times as high. Low doses resulted in shortening the survival of the animals. The difference as against control, however, only approached the limit of statistical significance. Higher doses resulted in skin damage but in a marked extension of survival, although still not statistically significant. Histological findings showed that low doses resulted in marked necroses in the central parts of the tumour while high doses caused extensive necroses in the central part of the tumour with marked dissociation of tumour cells in the marginal parts. Depending on the dose 3/4 to 4/5 of the tumour necrotized upon irradiation. It is believed that low doses stimulate the proliferation of tumour cells while higher doses, although causing extensive skin damage and necrosis of the tumour, favourably affect survival. (L.O.)
