AbstractAbstract
[en] Radiospirometry and perfusion scintigraphy were carried out in 10 patients with unilateral bronchiectases comparing the obtained results with similar investigations in 10 healthy volunteers and 20 patients with chronic spastic bronchitis. In bronchiectasis cases abnormalities were demonstrated in both investigations with asymmetry of the observed changes. The most frequent findings were: reduced ventilation, reduced perfusion (even with its absence), decreased total capacity and vital capacity, and increased residual volume in the region containing bronchiectasis, as well as significant impairment of perfusion in the whole lung with bronchiectasis. This asymmetry with intensification of disturbances in the area of bronchiectasis, as well as evident restrictive changes in this part of the lungs differentiated cases of bronchiectasis from the cases of chronic bronchitis. The author thinks that radiospirometry and perfusion scintigraphy of the lungs are useful in the diagnosis and assessment of pulmonary function disturbances in patients with bronchiectasis and in differentiating these cases against chronic bronchitis. AbstractAbstract
[en] In 60 women with breast carcinoma treated by radical mastectomy followed by X-ray treatment the effect of radiotherapy on the absolute values of different subpopulations of lymphoid cells in the peripheral blood was investigated. In evaluating the effect of radiotherapy on the system of lymphoid cells the technique of rosette tests was used, with the rosette test E applied for determination of lymphocytes T, the EAC test used for determining lymphocytes B, and the Esub(act) test for Tsub(active) lymphocytes. On the basis of the obtained results it is concluded that postoperative radiotherapy in breast carcinoma causes lymphopenia T due, in the first place, to a fall in the number of cells forming active rosettes E. The participation of disturbances in the subpopulation of lymphocytes B is less evident. Disturbances in all lymphoid cells tested developed already at the time of radiotherapy reaching a maximum value immediately after its end and persisting for at least 12 months. The degree of postradiation damage to the lymphocyte system increases with increasing dose of radiation applied and when the thymus is included into the irradiated area. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In 60 women with breast cancer the effect of radical mastectomy and radiotherapy on the serum levels of immunoglobulins IgA, IgM and IgC was studied. It was demonstrated that surgical treatment had no significant effect on the levels of immunoglobulins in the serum. Following X-ray therapy a fall occurred in the level of immunoglobulins, mainly of the IgA class, less in that of IgM and IgG. Radiation-induced disturbances were greatest immediately after completion of treatment and disappeared only after about 12 months. The degree of disturbances in the level of IgA was increased when the thymus was exposed to radiation, this was less evident in the level of IgG. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Thrity-two patients had thyrolymphography performed after scintigraphy. The usefulness of both these investigations was compared. Scintigraphic patterns of cold nodules could be diagnosed as adenomas owing to lymphographic investigation, and this was even more true of thyroid cysts. In cases of scintigraphically diagnosed parenchymatous goitre lymphography could only confirm this diagnosis. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Cases of two patients with pulmonary carcinoma treated with radiotherapy are reported. During treatment with 60Co irradiations or several weeks after completion of a course of this radiotherapy sings of coronary circulatory failure developed. In the light of these observations and a review of the pertinent literature the authors stress the necessity of taking into account the possibility of this complication during treatment with ionizing radiation. It is supposed that frequently this complication is masked by clinically similar symptoms of pulmonary carcinoma. Cardiological examinations before, during and after radiotherapy may be helpful in establishing the true extent of this risk in patients with coronary arterial disease treated in this way. (author)

[en] A case is reported proving the value of early diagnosis of haematogenic coxitis by scintiscanning. The results of successive investigations agreed with the clinical symptoms. Scintiscanning was a more sensitive method than radiography and made possible observation of the development of coxitis. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The isotope methods of determination of glomerular filtration rate and effective renal plasma flow are outlined briefly. The methods of evaluating glomerular filtration and effective renal plasma flow used as yet and already classic can be replaced quite well by isotope methods. This opens many advantageous possibilities. Simplification of the investigations makes them less troublesome for the patients. The isotope methods are as accurate as the traditional ones. They can be repeated many times in short time intervals. In the first place, however, the isotope methods make possible determination of GFR and ERPF at one time. Exposure of the patient to radiation, even using the method of two radioactive markers, is much lower than e.g. during urography. (author)
