AbstractAbstract
[en] The intestinal absorption of Serratia protease (TSP) was studied in vivo with adult rats and dogs. After intraduodenal administration of TSP, the TSP levels in the blood and lymph were determined periodically by radioimmunoassay. The maximum concentration of TSP was observed within 1 h after administration in both the blood and lymph; it was higher in the latter. An apparent saturation phenomenon was observed in the absorption of TSP

AbstractAbstract
[en] A series of basic proteins, rich in proline, were isolated from the salivary secretions of humans and rats. These proteins underwent metachromasia after staining with Coomassie brilliant blue R-250 in sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gels. The technique of destaining gels in several changes of 10% acetic acid after a 30-min staining period is a rapid method of general utility for the identification of proline-rich proteins from total cell lysates from other sources besides saliva

AbstractAbstract
[en] 125Iodine-labeled human immunoglobulin G-encapsulated dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine liposomes were prepared with or without asialoganglioside. Distribution of radioactivity following the oral administration of these liposomes in rats was checked in liver and in blood of the portal vein and heart. Gel filtration of plasma from the portal vein showed the presence of intact liposomes and protein. In contrast, neither liposomes nor protein were detected in cardiac blood but only lower molecular weight materials. The presence of liposomes in portal blood was further suggested from experiments using 6-carboxyfluorescein-entrapped liposomes. The level of liposomes in portal venous blood plasma was found to be lower in asialoganglioside liposomes. But this level could be increased substantially, almost to that in liposomes without asialoganglioside, by injection (iv) of asialofetuin
