AbstractAbstract
[en] The effects of gamma ray on the respiration rate of whole fruits, tissues and mitochondria of tomatoes were determined with the presence of KCN, SHAM and DNP. The CO2 production increased with irradiation doses immediately after exposure. However fruits treated with 2.5 kGy and above did not show any climateric peak in respiration. KCN adversely stimulated the O2 consumption by slices of irradiated sample which was prevented when both KCN and SHAM were added together. The DNP effects were not affected by irradiation treatment. The ability of mitochondria of irradiated sample to oxidize succinate was not affected by KCN alone but restricted when both KCN and SHAM were present. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The delayed-neutron analysis equipment installed at the Reactor TRIGA PUSPATI has been programmed to perform simultaneous analysis of uranium and thorium. This paper describes the equipment and technique used as well as the precision of the technique developed. A comparative analysis of similar samples by other methods are also given to indicate the accuracy of the technique. The use of this technique for routine analysis of uranium and thorium in samples can be done rapidly. A dynamic range for analysis of 1 μg - 21 mg uranium and 19 μg - 0.5 g thorium makes the technique suitable for geological, environmental and other samples whether in liquid or in solid form. AbstractAbstract
[en] The efficiency of low background gross alpha and gross beta counting system detector depends on the ability of that particular detector to receive alpha and beta particles during counting process. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the correlation between the gross alpha and gross beta activity value and the sample residue weight in the planchet racers such as radium-226 (226Ra) and strontium-90 (90Sr) are selected as alpha and beta source respectively, whilst sodium sulphate salt is used as sample residue. The result from this experiment shows that, the gross alpha and gross beta activity is adversely proportional to sample residue (Na2SO4) weigh. This is because more alpha and beta particles are being absorbed and blocked by the sample as the thickness of the residue increased. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Radiography also same as the other technique, it need standard. This standard was used widely and method of used it also regular. With that, radiography testing only practical based on regulations as mentioned and documented. These regulation or guideline documented in code, standard and specifications. In Malaysia, level one and basic radiographer can do radiography work based on instruction give by level two or three radiographer. This instruction was produced based on guideline that mention in document. Level two must follow the specifications mentioned in standard when write the instruction. From this scenario, it makes clearly that this radiography work is a type of work that everything must follow the rule. For the code, the radiography follow the code of American Society for Mechanical Engineer (ASME) and the only code that have in Malaysia for this time is rule that published by Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) known as Practical code for radiation Protection in Industrial radiography. With the existence of this code, all the radiography must follow the rule or standard regulated automatically.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Accidents are an unfortunate incident that happened in our lives. The government provides facilities and programs to reduce accidents; people also take a variety of initiatives that accidents can be avoided, and every family and its members are constantly vigilant to protect against accidents. Some industries are relatively simple operations are recorded accidents is higher than other industries is more complex and sophisticated. Authors relate this fact with the accident that occurred in the area where the power generation plant according to author accidents in this area is very small and grouped as isolated cases. This article also commented on two major accidents in nuclear power generation are Chernobyl and Three Miles Island. Authors also hope that the progress of current and future technology can overcome this problem and then convince the public that nuclear energy is safe and low risk.

[en] Customer Satisfaction Survey is a research that focuses on customer perception and experience during dealing with Malaysian Nuclear Agency. The objective of the research is to have feedback or comment from customer to further improve the services provided. This survey conducted in form of questionnaire form that relating with service provided by the Agency Nuclear Malaysia. Customer or consumer will response or give their opinion about agency service based on Likert Scale. A total of 100 questionnaire form has been distributed directly toward respondent. The questionnaire has been divided to respondent profile, method of dealing with agency, type of services and their level satisfaction toward service provided. The analysis are carried out by using statistical method and graphical in the SPSS and Excel Software. The result of survey received will become an indicator about the quality of service provided. [en] Before being subjected to gamma irradiation at MINTec-Sinagama, the product requires packaging (packaging) for packaging purposes. The packaging container must be in accordance with the irradiation objectives and the product itself. This paper is made to see the effects of gamma radiation on various types of container wrapping physically. The containers are petri dishes, glass bottles, paperboard boxes, plastic containers and plastic sacks. Dos 3.0 to 500 kGy is applied to the former wrapper. Dose options are based on the frequency of dosages requested by Sinagama customers. Physical tests apply to former packaging according to suitability after irradiation every 1 hour, 1 day up to 1 month. The collection of this data is important for the use of Sinagama customers. AbstractAbstract
[en] This chapter covers on industries that related to Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material (NORM) such as ore and mineral mining, ore melting and also natural gas. In this topic, the authors explained on ore processing, products of mineral processing industry which consist thorium, uranium and non radioactive material. The uranium and thorium sources will only increase if there is more ore and mineral which contain reasonable radioactive materials concentration been procesed.
