AbstractAbstract
[en] Work covered includes an updated listing of the alloys selected for the screening tests, plus complete test specimen matrices for the screening program. The present design and construction status of the simulated reactor helium loops and testing and analysis facilities and equipment are discussed. Also covered are the loading matrices for the screening creep tests

AbstractAbstract
[en] The monocrystals of the cubic Laves phases Se-Al2 have been produced for special measurements. Low-temperature anomalies were measured which were influenced by doping with foreign atoms. These anomalies, also called Kondo effect, were detected in some physical quantities like electric resistance, magnetic resistance, susceptibility, magnetization, specific heat, thermal conductivity and thermoelectric force. For diffuse magnetic neutron scattering, monocrystals with the dimensions 10 mm diameter and 70 mm length were produced. The materials used were La Al2, (La Ce) Al2, Ce Al2, Y Al2, and (Y Ce) Al2. The monocrystals had to have an exactly cylindrical cross-section which was obtained by stripping by means of spark erosion machines. The measurements were carried out at the reactor of the Laue-Langevin Institute at Grenoble. In the experiments the magnetic behavior was measured by neutron scattering on monocrystals in the temperature range from 2.5 K to 300 K, the energy spectra having been registered. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A super-conductive assembly is made by overlaying copper and niobium strips longitudinally and welding them together through exposure of the copper strip side to arc welding. The laminated strip is rolled, folded longitudinally, welded along adjoining edges, and the resulting tube is then corrugated for use in a flexible cryogenic cable. 13 claims, 6 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] Analytical techniques applied to ultrasonic waveforms obtained from inspection of austenitic stainless steel welds are described. Experimental results obtained from a variety of geometric and defect reflectors are presented. Specifically, frequency analyses parameters, such as simple moments of the power spectrum, cross-correlation techniques, and adaptive learning network analysis, all represent improvements over conventional time domain analysis of ultrasonic waveforms. Results for each of these methods are presented, and the overall inspection difficulties of austenitic stainless steel welds are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] A preliminary assessment was made of the feasibility of scaling up the laboratory techniques of making filamentary Nb3Sn superconductors using powder metallurgy to commercial fabrication process. The purpose of the effort is divided into two tasks. The first one is to demonstrate that sintered niobium rods infiltrated with tin can be reduced in area of approximately 104. The second task pertains to the extrusion by conventional manner a copper billet containing several sintered rods each encapsulated in tantalum. The ultimate goal of the project is to establish optimal processing parameters that are suitable for the production of long lengths of fully stabilized, large current and high field conductors

AbstractAbstract
[en] The problem is discussed of using nickel-based high-temperature brazing solders in nuclear power engineering. Different types of brazing solders are compared with regard to brazing and mechanical properties and oxidation resistance. The advantages of nickel-based brazing solders include their melting temperature which is higher by 150 to 200 degC than the melting temperatures of common solders. The effects of different additions on melting temperature are discussed. It is advisable to use the above brazing solders under hydrogen reduction atmosphere at a temperature of -40 down to -75 degC or at a pressure of 10-3 down to 10-4 Pa. Currently manufactured nickel-based brazing solders may be used at a temperature of up to 1150 degC. (J.B.)
