AbstractAbstract
[en] It is shown that the rms lifetime rather than the average lifetime of a compound nucleus is usually measured in experiments using the blocking effect. In the usual analysis of the results of these experiments the neglect of this fact can, in the region of strongly overlapping resonances, cause the value of the average lifetime of a compound nucleus to be underestimated by a factor of √2
