Superallowed Fermi β decay: lifetimes of 34Cl, 38K/sub m/, 42Sc, 46V, and 50Mn
AbstractAbstract
[en] The half-lives of the Fermi superallowed β transitions of 34Cl, 38K/sub m/, 42Sc, 46V, and 50Mn have been measured by multiscaling β rays detected in a plastic scintillator. The activities were produced in the reactions 32S(t,n)34Cl at E/subt/=3.0 MeV, 35Cl(α,n)38K/sub m/ at E/sub alpha/=8.0 MeV, 42Ca(p,n)42Sc at E/subp/=10 MeV, 46Ti(p,n)46V at E/subp/=10 MeV, and 50Cr(p,n)50Mn at E/subp/=10 MeV. Results for the half-lives (in msec) were as follows: 34Cl, 1525.2 +- 1.1; 38K/sub m/, 922.3 +- 1.1; 42Sc, 680.98 +- 0.62; 46V, 424.01 +- 0.47; and 50Mn, 282.72 +- 0.26. Comparisons are made with previous measurements; the systematics of the superallowed Fermi β emitters are discussed. The value for the vector coupling constant g/sub beta//subV/subR/ including the ''inner'' radiative correction is deduced to be g/sub beta//subV/subR/= (1.41220 +- 0.00043) x 10-49 erg cm3
