🎶 Behind 25 Years of Staying Power: The Iceland Airwaves Conference Every November, the Iceland Airwaves Festival transforms downtown Reykjavík into a vibrant musical hub. But behind the music, the Iceland Airwaves Conference drives the industry's next wave. The festival is celebrating its 25th year in 2024. Supported by Iceland Music , Reykjavík Music City (Visit Reykjavik / Markaðsstofa höfuðborgarsvæðisins), and Business Iceland, the conference is a forum where industry leaders gather to discuss, create, and discover emerging artists. From panels on artistic integrity vs. commercialism to debates on the future of live music, 2024's program explores the industry's most pressing challenges and opportunities. Festival Manager Isleifur Thorhallsson reflects, "We are incredibly proud to be celebrating not only 25 years of Iceland Airwaves but 25 years of playing a key part in the careers of some of the world's most talented artists." Ísleifur points to artists like Florence and The Machine, Sufjan Stevens, Sigrid, James Blake, Fontaines D.C., and Icelandic stars such as Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Rós, and Kaleo, many of whom found their start at Airwaves before becoming global sensations. For music professionals, the conference offers unparalleled access to networking, knowledge sharing, and inspiration. By joining, they aren't just part of a festival—they're contributing to the future of music. Congratulations to Carbfix for winning the Iceland Innovation Award 2024! This well-deserved award marks Carbfix's groundbreaking technology and process to permanently bind—or mineralize—CO₂ and hydrogen sulfide deep underground in basalt rock layers. With over a decade of experience, Carbfix continues to make advances in carbon capture and storage that can implemented here in Iceland and abroad. Big shoutout to Kári Helgason and Ragna Björk Bragadóttir, who accepted the award on behalf of Carbfix at the Innovation Forum at Gróska on Tuesday, October 22.
