🎉 Thank you, IntraFish Media and Hanna Gezelius, for the honorable mention of GeoSalmo in your article 🙌 As leading analysts like Gorjan Nikolik have identified, Iceland is poised for significant growth in land-based salmon farming. Here's why: ✔️ Robust, proven hybrid flow-through technology (HFS) creates optimal living conditions for salmon. ✔️ Iceland’s natural advantages - affordable, stable electricity prices from renewable geothermal power promotes long term profitability and true sustainability. Our cherry on top? GeoSalmo´s grow-out facility is designed and built by the experts at Artec Aqua, the same good people that helped bring us Salmon Evolution. Together, we are accelerating the world´s transition to sustainable food production 🌍🐟 💬 How do you see Iceland's role in shaping the future of aquaculture?

Our Head of Sales and Marketing Johannes Gislason took this video on his way to work of the newly erupted volcano here in Iceland. Quite a spectacular sight! 🌋

Nothing to see here. Just the daily commute towards the volcano that keeps going off in Reykjavík's backyard 😅 The same forces that will provide clean geothermal power to GeoSalmo's opporations sometimes put on a visual show. With this series of eruptions in mind, it is worth noting that GeoSalmo will be building on a plot of land in #Þorlákshöfn that is well outside of volcanically active zones. Seemed like a good idea 🤓

Iceland is the perfect location for land-based salmon farming, and GeoSalmo will make the most of it! The country’s unique geological features create an ideal environment for sustainable aquaculture. In Þorlákshöfn, porous lava rock interacts with seawater and freshwater from the mountains, enabling GeoSalmo to collect water resources naturally maintained at optimal temperatures, thanks to proximity to geothermal heat. This not only supports salmon health but boosts growth efficiency. 🗻 💧 🔥 The best part? As seawater filters through the lava rock, it eliminates biological threats like sea lice, ensuring pristine water quality and healthy fish. 💧 🐟 🥇 #Aquaculture #Salmon #Iceland

Construction of our smolt facility in picturesque Laugar Landsveit is progressing nicely. Set to become operational in 2025, the facility, designed by SMJ, will have the capacity to produce up to 2 million high-quality smolt annually. Growing healthy smolt in the pristine freshwater of Laugar is the first step in our mission to responsibly harness Iceland’s clean, renewable resources to produce the highest quality land-based salmon 💧 🐟 #landbased #salmonfarming in #Iceland

Transforming “Waste” into Value One of the many benefits of land-based salmon farming is the ability to collect substantial volumes of fish sludge 🐟 💩 that would otherwise settle at the bottom of fjords in traditional sea pen farming. Fish sludge has many valuable nutrients that can and should be utilized. This is an important part of a responsible circular economic and environmentally friendly approach to salmon farming. GeoSalmo, in collaboration with the Iceland Ocean Cluster, Matís Iceland and the Norwegian specialist Jan Henning Legreid, have received a grant from the Icelandic Food Fund (Matvælasjóður) for a project that seeks to convert this side stream into biochar. Biochar is a carbon rich substance that improves soil health and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. Utilizing fish sludge in this way has the potential to advance Icelandic agriculture and reduce the industry’s carbon footprint. Read more about the project in the link - If you have a green thumb, you could participate! 🌱 👍 For further information, you can reach out to our business development manager, Bjarki Jóhannsson.

The GeoSalmo team had a fantastik time at this years Lagarlíf this past week. Jens Thordarson our CEO and chairman of Lagarlíf opened the conference and inspired us all for the days ahead. He adressed the industry at large, the opportunities and challenges ahead. He spoke specifically about the fact that “the development of land-based aquaculture will require significant investment—more than what can be raised locally. With over 300 billion ISK in planned investments over the next few years, this represents the most ambitious private-sector effort ever undertaken in Iceland.” Hreiðar Hreiðarsson our Head of Aquaculture covered our risk analysis and explained our approach of beginning and designing with the end in mind.
