Þetta samstarf hefur meðal annars leitt til þess að fyrirtæki á Íslandi skrifuðu nýlega undir viljayfirlýsingu um að hefja notkun á vetnisknúnum MAN trukkum.

INE's sole purpose is to eliminate the use of fossil fuels in Icelandic transport.
About us
Icelandic New Energy was founded in 1999 following a declaration from the Government of Iceland declaring that Iceland intended to explore the possibility of transitioning from a fossil fuel paradigm to utilizing hydrogen for transport. The company was formed as a public-private partnership with key Icelandic stakeholders involved (current shareholders) along with Daimler AG, Shell International (Shell Hydrogen), and Norsk Hydro (later Statoil). In its 20+ years, INE has created, coordinated, and participated in numerous projects related to alternative fuels in transport. Early on, the focus was solely on land mobility but increasingly, the company became involved with marine applications and port-related activities. INE works on local initiatives, on national-level projects, collaborates with Nordic stakeholders, and participates in EU-level consortia.

🎉 What a week! Last Monday, five Icelandic stakeholders signed LoIs to purchase hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX freight trucks. The team at Icelandic New Energy has worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to secure off-takers and bring the deal to fruition. 🚛 20 trucks will be delivered in 2025 and 2026, with the first ones expected in spring 2025 ⚡ This is one of the largest energy transition projects in Iceland's history. The fuel consumption of 20 tractor units is equivalent to more than one thousand passenger cars! 🚗🚗🚗 Congratulations to all involved 👏 BM Vallá COLAS Kraftur MAN Truck & Bus SE GAMATHJONUSTAN HF. Secure your spot at the Nordic Green Transport Forum on 7 May in Gothenburg, Sweden! How can we make our transport practices more sustainable? What role does transport cooperation between the Nordics play in reaching our ambitious objectives of carbon neutrality? Join Nordic Energy Research for a full-day event to discover the added value of transport cooperation across the Nordic region. At the forum, you will get first-hand information about innovative solutions for achieving sustainable and integrated transportation on land, at sea, and in the air. Solutions that can support us in reaching the Nordic Vision 2030 of becoming the most integrated and sustainable region in the world. Transportation is predicted to increase, but what we cannot afford is an increase in the transport sector’s greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, we must accelerate the green transition of this sector. Thus, the Nordic Green Transport Forum will address cross-sectoral pathways forward to meeting national as well as international climate targets. The forum will include insightful presentations, expert comments, panel debates, and great room for networking. During the forum you will get the opportunity to listen to speakers such as Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, and Tommaso Selleri, Expert in Climate Change, Energy, and Transport at the European Environment Agency, EU. The programme is structured around the following sessions: – Green transport in the EU – Potentials for Nordic Green Transport Cooperation – Nordic Green Solutions and Sustainable Perspectives – Green shipping and ports – Urban Green Mobility and Diversity – Hydrogen Infrastructure for Heavy-duty Transportation – Electrifying the Sky Participation is free and open to the public. Hydrogen continues to be a top priority on the Nordic agenda. The Nordic Next Wave project is bridging the gap between vision and reality, between sea and land, between supply and demand, and is moving us steadily closer to achieving zero-emission transport. This is why we continue our support to the project, which is firmly entrenched in the Nordic Smart Mobility & Connectivity programme, and is a significant contribution to our collective 2030 milestone. Thank you to the Next Wave consortium for their commitment! Without waterborne transport, Europe would not be able to function. According to the report on the transition pathway for the EU mobility industrial ecosystem published last week, more than 80% of the EU’s external trade and 40% of the EU’s internal trade are carried by sea. Europe’s maritime technology sector comprises some 300 shipyards and more than 28,000 maritime equipment manufacturers and technology suppliers. The report highlights the crucial role of the transition to clean shipping as an opportunity for the EU waterborne industry to regain sustainable competitiveness. This will require significant investments in new technology development in a market where the EU already plays a frontrunner role in RD&I. #horizoneurope #eupartnerships #waterborne #competitiveness #research #innovation #sustainableshipping #sustainability #valuechain
"Research and Innovation key for a sustainable competitiveness of the waterborne value chain" The WaterborneTP welcomes the crucial role of research and innovation in the transition pathway for the EU mobility industrial ecosystem Eero Lehtovaara: "The digital and green transition will be the cornerstones of our activities for the coming period. These activities should benefit the entire waterborne transport ecosystem to increase competitiveness at the global level. Only this way the EU will be able to secure the fundamental role of a European waterborne transport sector.” The full press release is available here: https://lnkd.in/eThdE6aW #horizoneurope #EUPartnerships

We are thrilled to be part of this new project, "Heavy Duty Land-based Transport on Biomethane from Local Biogas and Green Hydrogen," funded by Nordic Energy Research. With partners Biogasclean A/S Faroe Ship Processkontroll Green Technology Tórshavnar kommuna and Umhvørvisstovan, Environment Agency, we will explore upgrading local biogas with green hydrogen to obtain biomethane, which can be used for heavy-duty transport. The project will be carried out in the Faroe Islands. Still, with partners from other Nordic countries, the application of biomethane will be explored in a Nordic context, focusing mainly on its use and impact on islands and isolated areas. In addition, the economic conditions and feasibility of upgrading biogas to biomethane will be investigated. #nordics #nordiceneergy #NordicCooperation #transport #GreenTransition #NordicSolutions #cleanenergy #hydrogen #biogas #greenhydrogen #heavytransport #heavydutytrucks #energytransition
New project for a green transition of the transport sector has been granted funding by Nordic Energy Research. How can land- and sea-based transport become independent from fossil fuels? This question will be addressed by the research project Heavy Duty Land-based Transport on Biomethane from Local Biogas and Green Hydrogen, that has been granted funding under the Green Transition of the Transport Sector Programme. The project will examine the process of upgrading local biogas with green hydrogen to obtain biomethane, which can be used for heavy duty transport. With focus on the use and impact of biomethane on islands and isolated areas, the project aims to increase local self-sufficiency. However, the impact will also be discovered in a wider Nordic context, thanks to partners from other Nordic countries: Nordic Atlantic Cooperation (NORA), Biogasclean A/S, Icelandic New Energy, Faroe Ship A/S, Processkontroll GT AB, Tórshavnar kommuna, and Umhvørvisstovan.
