Great news from the International Carbon Registry (ICR) We are pleased to introduce MYRKOL (M-ICR007)—a new methodology developed by the Icelandic governmental institute Land og Skógur to reduce emissions from previously drained, vegetated, non-forested peatlands and enhance carbon sequestration. As part of Iceland’s climate action plan, this methodology not only advances climate mitigation efforts but also provides a new income opportunity for farmers engaged in peatland restoration. Although developed for Iceland, MYRKOL is designed to be applicable globally, providing a framework for peatland restoration efforts worldwide. The methodology is now open for public consultation for 30 days. All feedback will be carefully reviewed and considered before the methodology proceeds to validation by an independent Validation and Verification Body (VVB). We highly encourage experts, stakeholders, and anyone with an interest in climate solutions to participate in the consultation process. The newspaper of Kópavogur and Garðabær covered the story of the Icelandic couple Anna María Guðmundsdóttir and Ásmundur Skeggjason and their forestry project, Skógálfar, Álfabrekka. The project was recently validated by the VVB Enviance, confirming compliance with international climate standards.
