Our mission is to showcase the immense potential of wind energy in decarbonizing maritime transportation. The SideWind Solution Sidewind introduces a groundbreaking concept centered around a plug-and-play, recyclable, practical, and cost-effective vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). These turbines are horizontally arranged inside a wall-free container, strategically positioned to harness the abundant wind energy that flows over cargo ships. Pioneering Icelandic Technology Sidewind plays a pivotal role in the WHISPER project, representing the core Icelandic technology. As a dynamic start-up, we hold the patent for a containerized wind turbine that can be effortlessly lowered onto and lifted off almost any vessel. This innovative technology generates electricity that seamlessly integrates into a vessel's power system. Eco-Friendly Initiatives Our commitment to sustainability extends to using recycled containers for our industrial wind turbines. We have secured funding to build our first such turbine, currently undergoing rigorous testing with the support of Samskip. Redefining Maritime Energy While small turbines are a common sight at sea, often used by yachters to recharge onboard batteries, our concept elevates wind energy generation to an unprecedented level. Imagine the potential of multiple turbines—perhaps even up to a hundred—working in unison on a single ship, significantly reducing carbon emissions and fuel consumption.
