We at VSV are attending the Qingdao International Seafood Expo at the Hongdao International Convention and Expo Center, which opened today in China. "Our goal is to strengthen existing partnerships in Asia, meet with key clients attending the expo, and introduce our premium seafood products to interested buyers," shares Björn Matthíasson, COO of VSV Seafood Iceland, who is currently at the event. Interest in Icelandic seafood remains high, and China stands out as one of the fastest-growing markets, with consumption now reaching over 34 kg per capita. As the world’s second-largest importer of seafood, China is a critical market for Icelandic capelin and roe. However, uncertainties about the quota for the upcoming season pose challenges. Some Qingdao Internations Seafood Expo Highlights - 13 exhibition halls at the Hongdao International Convention and Expo Center in Qingdao - 48,000 m² of exhibition space - 1,680 companies from 51 countries presenting their products - Over 40,000 visitors from more than 120 countries #VSVIceland #TasteTheWild #TasteTheTrust
About us
We are VSV — a proud fishery located on a small island off the coast of Iceland that goes by the name of Vestmannaeyjar. We’ve been catching, processing and delivering Iceland’s wildest fish since 1946 and we've loved every single moment of it. As our island is so close to our fishing grounds, we can catch, process and deliver the highest quality seafood, while ensuring that it’s as fresh as can be. And because we control the whole process, from catch to delivery, we can ensure sustainable and traceable fishing, as well as consistent cooling and reliable delivery, with every single fish. Here at VSV, we believe that you cannot only taste the wild, but our dedication, responsibility and trust — whether it’s our flaky cod, classic haddock or delicious scampi — in every single bite. Something we call the Pure Taste of Iceland.

Earlier this September, MATEY Seafood Festival was held in Vestmannaeyjar. The festival aims to raise awareness of the cultural heritage and the diverse seafood that is produced on our Island and brings together local restaurants, fish producers and international culinary experts. We at VSV are proud to have played a central role in this year's MATEY Seafood Festival. At VSV, we were honored to have provided a variety of top-quality seafood, from salted fish to fresh fillets, ensuring that festival guests enjoyed the finest dishes. Our involvement extended beyond food as we welcomed culinary students from Southern Europe, along with international journalists, to showcase our operations and the high standards of Icelandic fish processing. The MATEY festival featured an all-female lineup of guest chefs from Mexico, the UK, and Bolivia, each of whom worked closely with local restaurants to create exceptional seafood experiences. This level of collaboration, both locally and internationally, demonstrates the strength of our community and the quality of seafood Vestmannaeyjar is known for. We look forward to continuing our commitment to promoting sustainable seafood and building on the success of events like MATEY, which showcase the best of what Vestmannaeyjar has to offer. In the photo we see the chefs at Slippurinn, Einsi Kaldi and Gott together with the guest chefs at MATEY Seafood Festival this year. #VSVIceland #TasteTheWild #TasteTheTrust

We are Modernizing Maritime Safety We at VSV are excited to announce the rollout of the Öldu safety management system on board all of our vessels. This innovative digital solution, developed by safety expert Gísli Níls Einarsson, enhances safety protocols for our crews. A Revolutionary Safety App The Öldu app, installed on our crew members' phones, ensures collective responsibility for safety. It modernizes safety management with regular drills, equipment inspections, and onboard training for new crew members. Now, safety is a shared priority on all our vessels. Rapid Progress and Future Innovations Gísli highlights ongoing developments like automated training schedules, electronic safety manuals, and digital risk assessments. Future enhancements will include AI and machine learning to provide proactive safety recommendations. The collaboration with maritime safety partners and an early investment from us at VSV has driven the app's rapid progress. We’re proud of how far we've come and look forward to a safer future at sea. #VSVIceland #MaritimeSafety #Innovation #TasteTheDedication
