Introducing Cecy Young: the winning artist from this year's Belmond Photographic Residency. Committed to championing original perspectives in travel photography, the award identifies artists who have the power to transport us to another world – breathing new life into the way we see and experience travel. Raised in Mexico, Young relocated to Paris to pursue her passion for photography, and it was here that she expanded her creative boundaries by looking to East Asia. Driven by a longstanding personal interest in Japan, her work is a reflection of her cross-cultural journeys, blending diverse influences on her travels. When speaking about her winning portfolio on the Japanese town of Atami she notes “I have been visiting Japan almost yearly since 2014, and during my visits I was struck by scenes that seemed frozen in time. My work is a documentation that seeks to treasure this sense of time standing still, the lingering echoes of a bygone era while contemplating an uncertain future.” As this year's winner, Young will receive a residency at Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel, a print publication in partnership with RVB Books, a showcase in a global city, a financial award, and much more. Most notably, Young will generate a new body of work that will then become part of the Belmond Legends global campaign, which has previously commissioned 14 leading photographers including François Halard, Jack Davison, Coco Capitán and Rosie Marks. Cecy Young comments ”I’m truly honoured and grateful to have been chosen for this residency. This experience will allow me to explore new creative depths and connect with a community that celebrates creativity.
