We are excited to unveil Quisimangia, the innovative new company canteen for Mutti—a symbol of Italian excellence in tomato-based products—located in Parma. Merging an innovative design with principles of circularity, this project «illustrates our quest to merge the natural with the artificial» says Carlo Ratti, founding partner of CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati: «This clod of earth rising from the ground creates a constant dialogue with nature. Instead of a ‘déjeuner sur l’herbe’ we could call it a ‘déjeuner sous l’herbe’, dining under the grass.» Quisimangia’s architecture harmonizes with its natural surroundings, featuring a green roof made from compacted site soil and a glass-enclosed dining hall at meadow level. The design mimics a clod of earth lifted from the ground, creating a striking “ha-ha” effect that seamlessly integrates the built environment with nature. «We are pleased to continue our collaboration with CRA to bring this visionary project to life. Quisimangia is much more than a dining hall; it is the finest expression of our commitment to quality and sustainability,» states Francesco Mutti, CEO of Mutti. A standout feature of Quisimangia is its unique flooring, crafted from tomato skins, a byproduct of Mutti’s production line. This approach highlights the innovative use of local materials, reinforcing the project’s commitment to circularity. The landscaping further enhances the connection between architecture and the environment, creating a welcoming space for both Mutti employees and the public. Adding to the experience, culinary excellence is ensured by Vicook, the catering arm of Chicco and Bobo Cerea—renowned for their Michelin-starred Da Vittorio restaurants in Bergamo, St. Moritz, and Shanghai. After the widely awarded ”The Greenary”, this new chapter embodies Mutti’s and CRA’s shared dedication to quality and innovation. We invite you to discover Quisimangia and explore other upcoming projects by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati. 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗥𝗔 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺! /𝟵 “An architect should be a behind-the-scenes director,” says Giulia. “A mediator between nature, architecture, and the communities that live in the space. The goal is not to impose, but to enhance—creating a more sustainable future by building on what already exists.” This philosophy is central to CRA’s projects, including the Mutti Canteen, where Giulia has played a key role. The project reflects CRA’s commitment to requalifying and improving existing environments, blending innovation with respect for the past. By introducing a new building that harmonizes with its context, the Mutti Canteen embodies an architecture of quiet collaboration—free of protagonism, yet rich in purpose. Through sustainable materials and innovative solutions, the project demonstrates how architecture can coexist with, rather than dominate, its landscape. For Giulia, this approach represents the heart of CRA’s vision: a balance between past and future, between creation and requalification. “This is what makes architecture exciting,” she says. “Finding harmony between these elements is both our greatest challenge and our greatest reward.” Giulia earned her Master’s in Architecture between Genoa and Seoul, focusing on "Collective Cities" for the 2019 Seoul Biennale, where she explored the requalification of abandoned structures. After gaining experience in Berlin across all phases of architectural design, she joined CRA’s design department in Turin. Here, she contributes to projects that exemplify CRA’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and creating architecture that enriches the spaces we inhabit. @crassociati #GiuliaTolu #CarloRatti #office #spaziinnovativi #workingspace #coworking #teamwork #cralife
