Geotec S.p.A., known as TPS in 1974, has been working for 35 years primarily in the geophysical industry. Founded in 1986, Geotec S.p.A. (formerly known as TPS in the 70’s & 80’s) has been working primarily in the geophysical industry providing surveying, drilling, recording services to public authorities and private companies in the O&G for over 35 years. In 1996 Geotec S.p.A. took over Discovery Geophysical Services S.p.A., a company founded in 1991 by the Experimental Geophysical Observatory of Trieste. The merger between the two companies in 2005 set an important milestone for Geotec S.p.A. making it a main player in the provision of the complete seismic acquisition services in the Industry. Over the last 15 years Geotec S.p.A. extended its field of activity to the civil engineering sector and is actively involved in the field of geotechnical & geophysical investigation, topographical surveys, geotechnical, geometric and structural monitoring for major and minor infrastructure projects in Italy and Europe by providing Clients with a complete service from from the feasibility stage, through the investigation and design phases, to the final project completion.

Field activities have commenced in the Nuoro area for the technical and financial feasibility study for the Einstein Telescope IT, which is planned to host the new gravitational-wave observatory. A major research project with a world-class scientific and technological impact and Italy is one of the candidate countries to host it, in Sardinia, in the area of the disused Sos Enattos mine. #Geotec is currently working on 2 geotechnical surveys S03 (463 m) and S06 (448 m) for consorzio ETIC and INFIN Southern National Laboratories. #EinsteinTelescope #drilling #coring #geotechnical #wireline

“Overall, what fascinates me the most about this job is that no two sites are the same. The location is different every time……We work on land, offshore on platforms and in the mountains with helicopters. Drilling problems and challenges are encountered and solved every day. I know it sounds weird, but I love the most complicated and difficult situations. Finding solutions to difficult drilling situations is satisfying and rewarding and more fulfilling than financial rewards.” Marco Cogotti graduated in 1983, from a high school in Iglesias (CA) with a diploma as a Mining technician. His working career begins in the coal mining industry in Carbonia, Sardinia. Marco worked hard to obtain his diploma, but he also worked his way up the ladder working as a manual labourer and assistant driller. Marco has always loved this job, not only because it is in line with his studies but also because it is very different from the jobs of friends and family. Marco becomes part of the Geotec team in 2011, after working as a driller, supervisor and site manager with various companies. He provides professional and technical support to the soil and geotechnical investigation department by introducing the wireline coring method. Marco is also experienced in the use of the circulation drilling system. Not only does he have technical expertise in geotechnical investigations, but he also has vast experience in micro-piles, tie-rods, jet grouting and anchoring injections. Over the years, Marco has worked as a driller and supervisor and has collaborated with other team members in the organisation and execution of deep hole drilling projects using the wireline method. With Geotec he has worked on important deep hole drilling projects including two holes drilled to a depth of over 900 metres, in Campobasso and Lamezia Terme, as well as the two directional holes, both over 600 metres, which are being completed in Sicily. Marco has experience with all drilling and hole testing techniques as well as the use of drilling tools such as the B.O.P (Blow Out Preventer) and Diverter. His most important projects abroad include working in Albania, Guinea, Malta, Switzerland and France. #geotecpeople #drilling #coring #geotechnical #wireline

We are glad to annouce #Geotec is officially part of the group of Italian companies involved in the technical and economic feasibility study of the large underground research infrastructure for Einstein Telescope IT, the future gravitational wave detector, which Italy has bid to host at Sos Enattos in Lula, Sardinia. ET is one of Europe's leading research projects with world-class scientific impact. Italy is a candidate to host it in Sardinia in the area of the disused Sos Enattos mine in the Nuoro area. Geotec is in charge to execute the whole soil investigation campaign, with more than 10 deep coring boreholes between 200 mt and 500mt, down the hole testing, seismic reflection surveys, lidar, ecc. The ET project envisages the construction of a large underground infrastructure that will house a gravitational wave detector between 100 and 300 metres deep in order to preserve it in 'silent' conditions, isolating it from the vibrations produced by both seismic waves and human activities, which constitute what is known as 'noise', as a source of disturbance for the measurements that ET will have to make. #EinsteinTelescope #gravitationalwaves #seismicreflection #surveys

We are drilling a hole up to 490 metres deep by ‘core destruction’ and then up to 520 metres deep by ‘core drilling’ as part of the final design for the construction of the Palermo-Catania railway line, in the Caltanissetta Xirbi-Enna Nuova section (lot 4A). The client is the Triscelio consortium. The purpose of the borehole is, in addition to the geological investigation, to detect the presence or absence of gas, which is very important in anticipation of subsequent tunnel excavations. The gas monitoring is being carried out by the Collins company in Rome. #Geotec #drilling #coredrilling

Some pictures from the site where, in collaboration with the Sondedile company, we are building the directional borehole for the executive design of the Palermo-Catania railway line on the Lercara-Caltanissetta Xirbi section (lot 3). The client is Triscelio Consortium. The borehole, approximately 1,000 metres in length, is to be drilled at an inclination of 25 degrees from horizontal, to be gradually deviated to zero degrees in the ‘tunnel axis’. The deviation is performed with the methodology and tools of Devico AS, which is participating in the project. This is a pioneering work, thanks to which coring enters directly into the heart of the tunnel axis and allows us to collect more certain and reliable data than with vertical surveys. #geotec #drilling #coredrilling #palermocatania

What does an operational manager deal with? We find out more closely with Antonello Reale. We met him for #geotecpeople, the appointment with different professionals involved in the company. After finishing his studies in 2002, he started his career as a Site Manager in the field of #geognostic investigations and professional technical consultancy in the field of applied geology. After years of direct experience on construction sites of national significance, he has been managing the technical-contractual part of the Soil Investigation Division in close cooperation with top management for about 10 years. The Soil Investigation Division is composed of a team of professionals and specialized technicians. Thanks to their expertise they tackle projects that are gradually becoming more and more challenging, specialized and rewarding. This growth path has led #Geotec to be one of the main reference companies in the country in the field of deep surveys for geotechnical, geo-mining and scientific purposes.
