🏔️ #Lining #Segment Production for the #Brenner #Base #Tunnel at Isocell Factory 🏗️ Production of lining segments for the Brenner Base Tunnel is wrapping up at the Isocell factory in Hinterrigger, near Brixen. The facility has produced nearly 26,000 #rings and over 38,000 #base #segments for the #Mules 2-3 lot of the #tunnel, as well as the exploratory tunnel. Now, the factory continues operations for the Fortezza-Ponte Gardena section of the southern access route to the world’s future #longest #railway tunnel.   🚇 Since December 2017, Isocell has been a model of efficient and sustainable reuse of excavated materials, with 30% of the spoil from the Mules 2-3 plot used to create the precast concrete segments. A total of 218,247 tubbing rings were produced, each weighing 9 tons for the main tunnel and half that for the exploratory tunnel. Rather than using trucks, these heavy concrete segments are transported by rail to the construction site, reducing local traffic congestion and ensuring an eco-friendly solution. 🌟 Last week, our team on Watercare Services Limited’s Central Interceptor had the pleasure of hosting a group of Young Engineers from #Engineering New Zealand at our Māngere Pump Station site! Since the #project's inception in 2019, we've accomplished so much, and it was fantastic to showcase our #progress. The #team, equipped with full PPE, embarked on an insightful tour, guided by our talented engineers from the CI project. 🧐 Have you ever wondered what it takes to carry out maintenance on a #tunnel #boring #machine digging away under the harbour? For workers operating on specialised “slurry” #TBMs, it’s not just about skill - it’s about adapting to unique, high-pressure #environments. 👷♂️ 👷♀️ At the heart of this process is the hyperbaric chamber: a compact, pressurised room (2.5m wide x 5m long x 1.7m high) with its own breathing system. This chamber is crucial for safely transitioning workers to and from the compressed air environment needed for maintenance tasks at the TBM’s #cutterhead. 🌊 The depth of a TBM beneath a body of water determines how long workers spend in the chamber. For Sydney Metro West’s under-harbour tunnels connecting The Bays and Hunter Street, the deepest point is about 45 metres.
