🚇 Ghella is proud to be a key partner in one of the three major contracts for the Sydney Metro – #Western #Sydney #Airport project: Station Boxes and Tunnelling Works. This includes the excavation of five #stations and the design and construction of two #twin #tunnels — 4.3 kilometres from St Marys to Orchard Hills in the north and 5.5 kilometres from the Airport Business Park to Bradfield in the south. 🏗️ ⚡In a groundbreaking move, Western Sydney Airport will be the first rail #infrastructure project in #Australia to achieve “carbon neutral” #certification for both #construction and #operation. Last 500 meters for TBM Flavia! 🚧 The tunnel boring machine is about to complete its journey in the west main tunnel of the Brenner Base Tunnel, heading towards its great milestone: the Brenner. Since 2019, it has excavated 13.8 km out of a total of 14.3 km, overcoming highly challenging conditions with over 1,200 meters of rock above it. This achievement will also mark the completion of the excavation of the main tunnels at the Mules construction site. 🚀#Auckland has taken another major step towards cleaner #waterways and beaches with the official activation of the southern section of Watercare Services Limited’s #Central #Interceptor project. The southern half of the 16.2-kilometre tunnel, running from May Road in Mount Roskill to the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant, is now #fully #operational. 🌊 🎉To mark the occasion, an event was held at the new pump station in #Māngere. Auckland #Mayor #Wayne #Brown, alongside Ghella’s Country Manager, Francesco Saibene, gave the official start-up order before a ceremonial toilet chain pull delivered the first ‘official flush’. ✅ 👏We’d like to recognise the incredible efforts of the 600-person team from the Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) and Watercare, who have been working on the Central Interceptor project since construction began in 2019. 🏆This is a huge #milestone, but we’re not done yet! ⛰️ The #Brenner #Base #Tunnel will extend over approximately 55 km between the stations of #Fortezza (#Italy) and #Innsbruck (#Austria), where it will connect #underground to the existing bypass #railway, also in a #tunnel, reaching a total length of 64 km. Once completed, the Brenner Base Tunnel will be the longest railway tunnel in the world. 🏗️ 😎 The project is part of the overall upgrade of the #Munich-#Verona #High #Speed/High-Capacity axis and is part of the #TEN-T trans-European transport network, dubbed “The European metro line,” and more specifically, part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor. 🧐 👷♀️ The “Mules 2-3” construction section is the largest in the entire project area and extends from the northern border of the other Italian section, called “Isarco Underpass”, to the Italian-Austrian border.
