IPA Floods and Fires partecipated with its stand to the #CPForum2024. It was a good chance to welcome not only IPA Floods and Fires Partners and Consortium members but also to meet visitors to explain the action of the program. The stand was shared by the #MultiCountry #Study program, headed by Dipartimento Protezione Civile with the collaboration of CIMA Research Foundation, which started in April 2023 and will carry on for 36 months, covering some of the risks and topics of #IPAFF.

At the end of May, IPA Floods and Fires organized the #final #event of the program. The meeting in# Brussels was an opportunity to take stock of the #implementation of all work-packages and to celebrate the #achievements of the #Partners and the #Consortium. Over the past three and a half years, the EU-funded program has promoted #capacity #building and supported #disaster #preparedness, and created or strengthened the #network of flood and fire #experts in the Western #Balkans and #Türkiye through their tireless efforts and participation in workshops, trainings, exercises and exchanges. In addition to the seven work-packages into which IPA Floods and Fires action was divided, the final event was an opportunity to meet some of the representatives of the program's work in schools in #Kosovo*, #Montenegro and #Türkiye, with the hope of continuing and repeating this successful experience on a larger scale in the future. It was also a time to view the final video created especially for the program, which can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/dzBZn4CN We appreciated the contributions from all the national coordinators and the seven work package representatives, as well as DG ECHO, who contributed amicably to the production of the final video. IPA Floods and Fires would like to thank the Partners from #Albania, #Bosnia-#Herzegovina, #Kosovo*, #Montenegro, #NorthMacedonia, #Serbia and #Türkiye and Consortium Partners Dipartimento Protezione Civile CIMA Research Foundation, #FRB-MSR (Czech Republic), MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency), #URSZR (Slovenia), @IGSU (Romania) and Apell Euromodex www.ipaff.eu

The city of #Van, in eastern #Turkiye hosted the closing ceremony of the IPA Floods and Fires school activity. The Turkish school ‘ŞEHİT NURETTİN TÜRKMEN ORTAOKULU’ participated with 3 groups of very young students, who, helped by their teachers, translated their ideas into 3 beautiful works. The winning project was awarded in a small ceremony attended by fellow students, art teachers who guided them throughout the competition, the local coordinators and the national IPAFF coordinator from T.C. İçişleri Bakanlığı Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı - AFAD, the national agency of civil protection that brought everything together. The young students of Van proved to be very inventive and have a lot of imagination and we thank them all for their incredible #commitment, #participation and the beautiful works they presented. The winning project was reproduced on a mural outside the school building, to help raise awareness even among the citizens of the town. We would like also to thank the hosting school, " ŞEHİT NURETTİN TÜRKMEN ORTAOKULU’ of Van and its director, Mr Mehmet Yildiz and the art teachers, Sinan Özdemir, Harun Barığ and Veysel Batu Also, we would like to thank Mr Mehmet Sait Pişkin – Director of Van public library and Ms Songül Kaya Örnek, the Department of national education, that participated with Ms Elif Yöruuk Edremit, District Director of National Education , and Mr Regip Türk, Van Acting Director of National Education. The #competition created for #schools as part of IPA Floods and Fires to raise #awareness on the #risk of #forest #fires was finalized in the beautiful scenery of the #castle of #Vushtrri, a village in the heart of #Kosovo. The winning project was awarded in a small ceremony attended by fellow #students, the art teacher who guided them throughout the competition, the local #coordinators and representatives from #EMA, the national agency of #civil #protection who brought everything and everyone together. Once more we were surprised to see how inventiveness and imagination worked so well in young students. We thank them all for their incredible #commitment, #participation and the beautiful works they presented. The winning project will be reproduced on a mural visible in centre of Vushtrri, to help raise awareness even among the citizens of the town. We would like also to thank the hosting school, "Andon Zako Çajupi" Vushtrri, and its director. It is refreshing to know that the new generations, who certainly have easy access to information but are also bombarded by fake news, have this spirit of #participation, #belonging and #responsibility. They are the hope for the future, and we hope that this small moment will remain in their memory and bear great fruit, leading the way for future initiatives. #schools #cooperation #Europe #wildfireseason To know more on the initiave visit: https://lnkd.in/dEFY-scz

In 2021, as part of the IPA Floods and Fires program, a small #competition was created for #schools to raise #awareness of the #risk of #forest #fires. At the beginning of# 2024, the competition became a reality. This week, the winning school for the best project in #Montenegro was awarded in a small ceremony attended by teachers and students in the city of #Podgorica. We were surprised to find girls and boys who were very mature for their age, with such inventiveness, imagination and logical sense. We thank them all for their incredible #commitment, #participation and the beautiful work they presented. The winning project was also reproduced on a mural visible in the schoolyard. We would like also to thank the Director of the Rescue and Protection Directorate of Montenegro and the staff which helped organizing the activity and followed every step of it, and also the hosting school, Marko Radevic High Civil engineering, and its director. #schools #cooperation #Europe #wildfireseason If you would like to know more about the competition, please visit: https://lnkd.in/dEFY-scz

The activity closing Component 2 of IPA Floods and Fires program is the #field #exercise held from March 19 to March 21 in the village of #Kuchkovo, #North Macedonia. A total of 200 firefighters, trained during the course of this program, have been deployed on the field to play on a scenario that involves ground fires. The GFFF modules from all the 7 Partners - with an additional module from #Slovenia partner #ACPDR - will work on a joint operation field, share the Base Camp and operate together in a forest area, addressing the protection of civilians and private properties, the environmental #protection, and the safeguard of the cultural heritage. The exercise has been directed by more than 40 international #experts appointed by the #Consortium and #Partners and hosted by the Protection and Rescue Directorate of North Macedonia. The regional field exercise represents a great #opportunity to #build and #strengthen #relationships, and to gain #visibility for the Program and for the efforts of EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid - DG ECHO to empower the program Partners in the Region. T After a first day on the field, today, a VIP visit, as well as an Observer Program has been organized, to allow high representatives, program officers, and external experts to have a better understanding of such a complex exercise, and to see the teams in action. In the meantime, injects have been proposed to the teams on the field to test their skills and preparation and carry on with all the activities foreseen by the program. #EU #exercise #firefighting #cooperation
