This study aimed to evaluate how the same pathology was reflected in the parent and patient at different time points by comparing the answers to the common questions between two questionnaires: EOSQ-24, a parent proxy questionnaire designed to assess the health-related quality of life of early-onset scoliosis patients during their childhood years, and EOSQ-SELF, a novel self-reported questionnaire, which assesses HRQoL in older children and adolescents. The self-reported group had a general trend of worse results, meaning that parents and caregivers may not accurately perceive the problems of EOS patients and that the challenges faced by these patients are not adequately reflected on proxy questionnaires that assess the HRQoL of children. Does backpacking hurt your spine? False. Seeing the backs of children decidedly bent under the weight of books, instinctively the doubt that it could harm the back crosses our minds. The fact is that the scientific studies that have been done on this topic have not found direct correlations between the typical use of the backpack and back pain. Debunking recurring myths: does scoliosis only occur in children? Childhood scoliosis can worsen in adulthood; and it can even arise for the first time in adulthood. In this latter case, we talk of “de novo” scoliosis which appears in previously healthy adult spines. It affects around 38% of the population, mainly women, and its incidence increases after the age of 60. Scoliosis in adulthood can also be linked to changes in bone density seen in osteoporosis. Spinal deformities, including adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and adult spinal deformity, affect many patients. The measurement of the Cobb angle on coronal radiographs is essential for their diagnosis and treatment planning. To enhance the precision of Cobb angle measurements, three distinct artificial intelligence algorithms were developed. The result of this study suggested that learning across multiple diseases rather than disease-specific training may be an efficient AI learning method. The presented AI algorithm has the potential to reduce errors in Cobb angle measurements and improve the quality of clinical practice.
