Yesterday at the Fall Conference 2024, Gianluca Molteni presented “AI Applications for Margin Calculation Approximation”. The Span2 algorithm, introduced by CME in 2023, is slower but more accurate than the old Span for calculating the margin of Cleared Derivatives portfolios. However, its slow computation speed makes it unsuitable for pre-trade use, leading CME to recommend continuing with Span for pre-trade calculations. To address this, we proposed using a Neural Network (NN) to approximate Span2, enhancing both the accuracy and speed of margin calculations. As a result, the average error was reduced by about 8 times compared to Span, and the speed improved from Span2’s seconds to just a few milliseconds using the NN. #FALLCONFERENCE #AI #FINTECH
