I’m thrilled to share that my latest paper, "Stimulated emission from hexagonal silicon-germanium nanowires", has just been published in Nature Communications Physics! You can check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eKj_T-2K This study marks a significant step towards developing silicon-compatible lasers for photonic integration on a full silicon platform. For the first time, we’ve experimentally demonstrated the presence of stimulated emission—the driving force behind lasing—in hexagonal silicon-germanium (hex-SiGe) nanowires. This is shown by two main observations: 1. The emission from individual nanowires shows resonant peaks matching the nanowire geometry. 2. The emission intensity of the resonance peaks grows superlinearly with the excitation density, indicating the onset of stimulated emission. The presence of stimulated emission opens the door to achieving optical gain in hex-SiGe, a crucial step towards creating silicon-based lasers. This could revolutionize photonic and electronic integration by enabling efficient silicon-compatible lasers. Want to know more? Then feel free to read the paper!
