OCCAM, the Observatory on Digital Communication in special Consultative status at UN ECOSOC

On Friday April 12th, we concluded the XXIII edition of the Infopoverty World Conference "AI turmoils the digital processes: how to act to ensure human rights and provide e-welfare for all?" at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their much appreciated contribution with enlightening insights and proposals. Together, we've punctually explored the most significant turning points of this Era, where AI and digital technologies are on the front row in shaping our Society, highlighting opportunities and best practices laying the groundwork for impactful actions and collaborations related to our core mission: fighting poverty through digital technology. 🌍 Artificial Intelligence in Rural Research: Advancing Africa's Development 🌾 As we enter 2025, I’m thrilled to kickstart the year by championing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Rural Research, a critical focus area for Africa's sustainable development. This initiative resonates with our shared mission at Programos Foundation, in collaboration with the UN World Summit Awards, WSA the UN @ICT4SIDS Strategic Planning Initiatives, Tertiary Institutions across Africa, Africa IPv6 Cybersecurity and global partners, to leverage AI as a tool for transformative rural progress, in the wake of a new internet framework changing the whole landscape with developing concerns for Africa. The OCCAM, the Observatory on Digital Communication in special Consultative status at UN ECOSOC Infopoverty World Conference Programme has long been a beacon for empowering underrepresented communities through innovation. This year, we align our efforts to drive sustainable intensification in rural Africa, targeting low-hanging fruits where AI can have the most immediate and scalable impact: 🌾 Precision Agriculture: AI-powered tools to optimize farming practices, increase yield, and combat food insecurity. 🏥 Healthcare Access: Telemedicine and AI diagnostics to reach underserved rural areas. 📚 Education: Adaptive AI systems to bridge learning gaps and localize content in native languages. 🔋 Renewable Energy Deployment: Smart solutions to power off-grid communities. 💡 Economic Empowerment: AI-driven marketplaces and financial inclusion tools to uplift rural entrepreneurs.
