For any design studio, creating a connection with the local community is fundamental. At our Tangity studio in Rome, we are excited to deepen our engagement and increase our exchange with the territory. We are happy to start a conversation with the Design Department of Sapienza Università di Roma - Sapienza Design Research, the first Interdepartmental University Center in Italy dedicated to design-driven innovation. Our aiming is to create a virtuous mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey! #TangityRome #DesignConversation #SapienzaUniversity #CommunityEngagement #Innovation #DesignExcellence

We are pleased to announce that our talented group of PhD students have received a special recognition for their research proposal “Towards a Community of Practice for Service Design in the Public Sector: A Participatory Research Proposal” at the SID 2024 annual conference “Design and Research: Sources and Resources.” Their research revolves around the transformative and generative potential of service design in different domains of application. Specifically, they have at first begun with a reflection on the notion of the Public, to then propose a research that seeks to establish an open, transversal community of practice through a series of periodic calls to action that will bolster the constitution and the cyclical updating of three incremental outputs: the definition of a common and shared Taxonomy for framing the possible tools, scales, scopes, and methodological approaches; the drafting of a shared Manifesto among designers, experts, and practitioners to counteract the reduction of design to a disciplinary tool and enable its potential for critical-systemic vision and proposal on the present; and the programming of a Glossary, a tool for the recognition of a shared language in the service design community. Huge congratulation to the co-authors of the research proposal: Miriam Saviano, Mariia Ershova, Rachele Gracci, Efren Trevisan, Lorenzo Brunello, Aureliano Capri, Luca Baldini, and Sonia Belhaj. We take this opportunity to thank once again @SID Societa Italiana di Design for their effort and recognition, the Università Iuav di Venezia for amazingly hosting SID 2024 annual conference, the Sapienza Università di Roma, the ISIA Roma Design, the ISIA Firenze, the Politecnico di Milano, and the Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna. At Tangity, we believe continuous learning is essential for designers. In our recent workshop at Sapienza Università di Roma, we took it a step further. We explored the concept of "learning to unlearn" – a crucial skill for navigating today's dynamic design landscape dictated by our ability to adapt to fast paced changes. This powerful approach helps designers break free from clichés and biases, challenging preconceived notions with fresh perspectives. Designers can spark their creativity, unlocking innovative solutions and seeing connections differently, resulting in holistic design strategies. The workshop, held for students of the PhD Service Design for Public Sector Design for Public Sector), showcased Tangity's design toolkit in action. Participants experienced how "learning to unlearn" can encourage collaboration across generations in the workplace. Thanks to Lorenzo Imbesi for inviting us! Are you interested in incorporating "learning to unlearn" into your design process? We can help! Day 3 of Summer Workshop was held at ISIA Roma Design and led by Barbara Pasa and Gianni Sinni. The workshop "Public futures, data, rights, design" was introduced by lectures discussing the importance of data visualisation in the public sector, also in relation with data transparency and privacy protection. In the afternoon, using the "Futures Wheel" method for the graphical representation of direct and indirect future consequences, students started questioning how existing systems would change in the next 30 years. Day 2 of Summer Workshop was held at Sapienza University of Rome and led by Antonio Grillo and his team from Tangity. The workshop “Learning to Unlearn” was introduced by a lecture discussing the importance of letting go of biases and avoiding creative stagnation. To facilitate this, they have presented the Tangity Design Toolkit, a set of instruments that helps to change points of view and expand perspectives in order to experience the unlearning process. In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to experiment with the approach through one of the tools, called “Connecting dots”, questioning how designers can create new meanings that are capable of enhancing people’s sense of belonging in different spaces. Today we have launched the first Summer Workshop of the doctoral programme, where the 8 PhD students are exploring various themes useful for deepening their research. Hosted by ISIA Rome, day one was introduced by the director Tommaso Salvatori and the PhD’s coordinator Lorenzo Imbesi. The opening lecture by Veneranda Carrino discussed systemic design methods and case studies developed at ISIA in past decade, then Massimiliano Datti and chiara raho focused on the Roma Design Experience model, carried out each year in collaboration with a wide array of local stakeholders. In the afternoon, the workshop of Stefano Pratesi presented a critical approach to personas in order to master relationship design and kinship design, which was practiced by the students through real world challenges of social innovation, borrowed from two municipalities.
