«Over half of cruise ships on the orderbook today use LNG engines, with bio-methane and e-methane seen as crucial energy solutions. Methane slip has been reduced by four times over the past 20 years and is expected to be solved within the decade. Methanol is emerging as a medium-term option, with methanol-ready vessels launched this year. To stay competitive, cruise lines are investing millions in shore power technology, reducing emissions by up to 98% while docked. More than 60% of the cruise fleet can now connect to shore power, a 20% increase over the past year. By 2028, 238 cruise ships will have this capability, double the number from the previous year. Currently, only about 35 ports have onshore power infrastructure, representing under 3% of global cruise ports».
