In the past two days, I’ve had the honor of leading two dynamic and highly interactive workshops at the SIMMED Società Italiana di Simulazione in Medicina 2024 Conference, hosted by Humanitas University.
The first workshop, "Guida alle SimZones", was delivered in collaboration with Alice Monzani, Marco de Luca, Alessia Bolamperti, Rosaria Lea and Francesco Severi. Together, we explored the critical elements of effective debriefing and the role of structured simulation zones in fostering deliberate practice. The session received outstanding feedback, with participants actively contributing to the discussion and sharing their experiences.
The second workshop, "ChatGPT e la Simulazione Medica: Potenzialità e Applicazioni", co-led with Alessandro Costa and Luca Carenzo, highlighted the transformative potential of generative AI in medical simulation.
We showcased cutting-edge technologies, including Advanced Voice Mode from ChatGPT, demonstrating how it can integrate seamlessly with any type of manikin. This innovation supports facilitators in managing complex scenarios, enhances gender and diversity representation, and fosters more immersive learning experiences. The enthusiastic interaction and positive feedback from attendees were truly rewarding.
A huge thank you to Matteo Lungherini and Simulkare S.R.L. for helping us bring to life a ChatGPT update released just today, on one of their manikins. This real-time, on-the-fly integration added immense value, demonstrating the power of AI in action and reinforcing the potential to make these cutting-edge technologies accessible to everyone.
A heartfelt thank you to all the friends and colleagues I had the pleasure of meeting over these two days. The shared experiences and vibrant discussions have been invaluable in advancing Italian simulation practice.
A special thanks to Humanitas University, which has been my “home” for four incredible years. I’ve seen its facilities grow and evolve, and it’s inspiring to witness its continued excellence.
Lastly, a big shout-out to Phil Purver for introducing the iRIS system to the Italian audience! I firmly believe in the potential of this platform and hope it leaves a lasting impression on my Italian colleagues as well.
Here’s to the power of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of medical education!
