What are the best design choices for a new project? What types of soles and uppers work best for a given concept? These were some of the questions addressed during the Industry Driven Day at ARSUTORIA SCHOOL, an event dedicated to educating and inspiring future players in the footwear industry. On this occasion, Pierpaolo Sgattoni General Manager of Sneaknit, gave a talk on the revolution brought by knit technologies in the design and production of shoes, bags and accessories. The discussion then highlighted the themes of sustainability, comfort and production innovation, central elements of Sneaknit's vision. Soles are an essential component in the aesthetics and performance of a shoe. For this reason, in the morning, we welcomed Trond Sönnergren, Director of Product & Innovation and Eleonora Aquili, Senior Designer & Design Coordinator at JVI-solesbyMICHELIN. They shared their expertise in crafting some of the most successful #sole designs, particularly in the outdoor sector. What if we told you that recycled denim can also become yarn? Speaking of fashion sustainability, jeans are the Achilles' heel: denim absorbs up to 35% of the world's cotton production. Adding to that, you have the dyeing and finishing stages, which usually involve an important use of chemicals. At Sneaknit, we give new life to old jeans, transforming them from unused garments into valuable resources. After being collected, these jeans are cut, freed from buttons and zips and reduced to fibres through a mechanical, non-chemical process. The recycled fibres are then fed back into the production cycle to be converted into new yarn - this is where the second life of these fabrics begins! The distinctive touch? The colouring: we do not subject the fibres to further dyeing, but preserve the original shades of the jeans, resulting in authentic and unique tones.
