A research organization, ARCA works to promote research and the study of art crime and cultural heritage protection. ARCA aims to bridge the gap between the practical and theoretical by fostering collaboration between foreign and domestic law enforcement officials, security consultants, academics, lawyers, archaeologists, insurance specialists, criminologists, art historians, conservators, and others. In doing so, we aspire to raise awareness about art related crime and work to better preserve our collective cultural heritage. At the grassroots level, ARCA seeks to identify emerging and under-examined trends related to the study of art crime and to develop strategies to advocate for the responsible stewardship of our collective artistic and archaeological heritage. ARCA advances its mission through its educational programming, research, publications and public outreach. We work with scholars and allied professionals in the fields of law, criminal justice, museum studies and cultural resource management at the national and international level to foster an exchange of knowledge in advancement of this growing field. ARCA’s goal is to incrementally shift the values of contemporary society and ensure greater protections of the world’s art and cultural patrimony by working to improve the collective relationship with the past by leveraging the knowledge and influence of professionals, patrons, and the public.

Investigators (finally) win restitution battle as Cleveland Museum of Art backs down. This case was more than a decade in the making and dates back to looting in the 1950s. #restitution #illicittrafficking #antiquities https://lnkd.in/d7zzfSpt
In a long and complex case, Ashraf Omar Eldarir pled guilty yesterday to smuggling hundreds of Egyptian artefacts into the United States, many of them so freshly excavated they still smelled of wet earth when officials seized them. Have you seen this one? https://lnkd.in/dY3PZiqy

It was great to attend yesterday’s event on provenance research hosted by the Association for Research into Crimes against Art. I felt like I was back in ARCA’s postgraduate program in Italy the summer before I started law school. Great discussions with great people!
🔎 Join us for ARCA's 3rd 2025 Cafe Klatsch - Talking Provenance on 3 February 2025 at 17:00 CET where we will host a fascinating talk on provenance research & WWII-era art claims! This is a casual talk with experts affiliated with ARCA who will discuss the journeys of lost & looted artworks, restitution challenges & ethical dilemmas. Don't miss this eye-opening discussion! 🎨⚖️ #ArtHistory #Restitution #Provenance

I remember being a graduate student at Yale and going to a lecture at the Yale Art Gallery by Noah Charney on the Ghent Altarpiece - gosh back in 2008/09. It feels full circle that I would 1. have the opportunity to teach the Ghent Altarpiece to my students this week, and 2. have had the opportunity to study with Noah in Amelia as part of the ARCA program! This was a great interview with Noah about his pathway to founding ARCA.
🔍 New on the ARCA Blog We’re pleased to share an interview with ARCA’s founder, Noah Charney, where he reflects on the origins of ARCA, the challenges of combating art crime, and the future of cultural heritage protection. 📖 Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/eCD8NrjT #ArtCrime #CulturalHeritage #ARCA Noah Charney #ArtHistory
