🌏🍎 In the Kyrgyz Republic’s Kadamjai district, a logistics center is transforming local #FoodSystems by connecting farmers with schools. This innovative public-private partnership ensures kids enjoy fresh, nutritious meals while farmers gain reliable markets and reduce food waste. With improved storage, processing, and training supported by World Food Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic, schools now serve high-quality, diverse meals – strengthening nutrition while supporting the local economy. This success reflects the vision of the country’s recent Food Systems Dialogue – supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub – collaboration and innovation for sustainable, resilient food systems. 📖 👉 Read the story: https://lnkd.in/ew_MVG_U 📷 Photo credit: WFP

Spearheading Sustainable Solutions for People and Planet | Global Impact Through Research and Strategic Partnerships
𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵: 𝗜𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲? Hello from 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝘂, where we’re navigating one of the most challenging and critical global discussions of our time—climate action. There’s a lot of anticipation here. The UN Secretary-General will be arriving soon, and we’re hopeful for meaningful agreements on key agenda items. But amidst the energy and determination, I’ve also heard familiar criticisms: "𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘊𝘖𝘗𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘵? 𝘐𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦?" These critiques don’t tell the full story. 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀; 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. With 198 countries at the table, building consensus takes time—it’s not easy. Along the way, we’ve seen incremental changes that add up to real progress. And sometimes, we’ve witnessed truly transformational change, as we did in 2015 with the Paris Agreement. These moments remind us of what’s possible. And it’s why we work so hard—not just for incremental progress, but for the next transformational breakthrough. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆. The UNFCCC and the dialogue it facilitates are irreplaceable. Disagreements mean we’re still at the table, working through tough issues. Walking away means giving up, and that’s something we cannot afford. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: • They’re platforms for activists to raise their voices. • They’re spaces where stakeholders coordinate action and align efforts. • They’re where science and global leadership come together to find solutions. Here in Baku, we must keep the hope of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees alive. This is not just a goal; it’s a lifeline for billions of people. We also need to empower non-state actors—cities, businesses, civil society organizations, and communities—because their contributions are crucial to creating a sustainable, equitable, and resilient future. In the end, what we’re all striving for is the same: 🌍 A planet that thrives. 🌱 A better quality of life for all. 💡 A future of shared prosperity. So, is there still hope? Absolutely. But it requires effort, collaboration, and the courage to believe that transformational change is always within reach. Let’s keep the hope alive. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸? Catch Hub Director Stefanos Fotiou in conversation with Azerbaijan TV #AZTV during #COP29, where he explored the critical intersection of #FoodSystems and #ClimateAction. Stefanos emphasized the importance of evidence-based solutions to address climate challenges, highlighting the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. He urged for a shift in the narrative: 💡 Climate financing isn’t a cost - it's an investment opportunity with a triple dividend for people, planet and prosperity. Key takeaways: 🔄 Redistribute funds: Shift investments from high-emission sectors like fossil fuels to greener alternatives. 🌾 Support small farmers: Strengthen social protections and ensure small farmers—often on the frontlines of climate impacts—aren't left behind. 📊 Leverage science: Use data to guide financial decisions and resource allocation, addressing both environmental and economic impacts. 💰 Tackle hidden costs: With hidden food system costs reaching $12 trillion annually, it's critical to adopt sustainable practices that minimize these impacts. Stefanos reminds us that food systems are central to climate action and that with the right investments and policies, we can foster resilience and equity for all.
